Taxco charity book shelf came up trumps again yesterday.  Spotted a pristine condition (so never been in the kitchen) hard back copy of Keith Floyd's A Feast of Floyd.  It appears to be a signed copy but OH thinks it may have been printed to look that way.  I like it as it's not just his name but has a wine glass under it as well.

Floyd's TV shows were a favourite of ours when we first met in the late 80s and I remember very well when he did a show on Jersey.  He had a camp stove set up in a field of cows and cooked calves liver with cream and chives.  It's a massive coincidence that the OH had bought some liver this week to cook in exactly the same way for our dinner tonight!!

What I love about his books is the absolute joy in his writing about his life and the food he has enjoyed (or not!) and in most of his books there's a long introduction to each chapter of recipes to say why or where he first had this soup or that meat dish cooked by a friend or someone's grandmother.  Great fun.

Oh that's a bit insensitive (on Floyd's part), I feel, cooking calves liver in a field of cows! Lucky he wasn't trampled!

I don't like the fact that the local chip shop has a fish tank in the corner! They're clearly ornamental, not for eating, but even so ...

I think the point was more about the lovely Jersey milk/cream that was used but yes I know what you mean.

Of course there's all the old fancy restaurants that had lobster tanks so you could pick your dinner.....balanced by a odd place I used to know that had a piranha tank and would chuck in some guppies when things weren't rowdy enough.

@Brie - you reminded me of how much we enjoyed the Floyd programmes.  He was such fun, the epitome of a Bon viveur.  "Over here Clive" with the associated finger pointing while Keith had a slurp of wine still makes us smile.

I'm really enjoying Guilty by Definition by Susie Dent.  It's a good plot and a fascinating exploration of the wonderful English language.

No - would be interested to hear recommendations though.

I picked up 3 paperbacks for £2 in the local hospice shop yesterday. Two more Elly Griffiths, from the Ruth Galloway series. I have read the first and the 8th(?) as didn't realise it was a series (doh) so now trying to fill in the gaps. Also got On Beauty by Zadie Smith to add to the pile.

I enjoy the Elly Griffiths books too. I still have a couple on my book shelf to read. All mine were 50p each from local charity shops.

I am just about to settle down for the evening to finish Yellowface by RF Kuang.
