I’ve finished a book! On Friday, one of the ladies at my MacMoves exercise class recommended the DCI Ryan series of books by L J Ross. Immediately after I got home, I downloaded the first in the series, Holy Island and started to read It’s set on Lindisfarne.
It’s a good book and I can thoroughly recommend it. There are a couple of annoyances: Scene Of Crime Officers (SOCO’s) constantly being referred to as “CSI’s” being a major one. However, it’s well written, full of suspense, and, no, I didn’t guess the identity of the murderer.

I love the Elly Griffiths Ruth Galloway books and was sad when she finished the series. I've been given four of her Brighton mysteries but haven't started them yet. Has anyone read her new book called The Frozen People? I'll look out for it in CSs but seeing as it is new I'm assuming I'll have to wait awhile.

Just been down a rabbit hole whilst clearing out some stuff. A whole series of Thelwell books! Just what I needed to lighten some of the gloom. Got some good reading suggestions going through this thread - have to see what the library has now.2

A quick scout about suggests that I read The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and various Dido Twite novels. Have got a dim memory of something about an evil industrialist, a mill and an underground railway, too, but can't think of the title.
Good stuff, although reading as a child is often better than doing so as an adult. Children often aren't burdened with the knowledge of the pragmatic and the mundane that fetters the adult imagination. I still read, of course, but lost the ability to decouple the imaginative engine from the parochial brake many years ago. It's not quite the same as the freewheeling days, somehow.5 -
