If it was someone on here who didn’t recommend The Bee Sting, I heartily concur. I gave it a good shot, but then just got bored.
I have just finished The Vaster Wild’s by Lauren Groff. Not my usual sort of thing because it is less plot driven and quite slow - the story of a servant escaping from a settlement into the wild when America was first colonised, then the backstory unfolds throughout the book. Written very much in the moment, but I really got into it.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
And now I'm irritated. Our Shared Reading Group has just started All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr. Our facilitator hasn't yet been able to get enough copies for us through the library, so I said I'd probably get it on Kindle, because after the first chapter I am clearly going to want to read ALL of this this book, and we may well end up skipping chapters.
So I looked on Amazon, and I'm sure it was £2.99 for Kindle, but I didn't click 'buy now' because I really must finish Ithaca and I thought this would distract me. Now showing as £5.49. Grrrr.
I did get a copy in the Oxfam bookshop yesterday for £2.50, but it's smaller print that the library copies so I may struggle with it. Grrr grrr.Signature removed for peace of mind2 -
