it could be that, I just signed up and didn't realise there was a minimum funding now.
I think this ought to be altered: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts/

Santander look the choice for cashback without stipulations.

*edit, cashback is a false dawn- no bank account does one without stipulations- pay per month, or pay this in, or has to be first year.

Which santander accounts are these? As the edge ones do state £500/£1500 min pay in & also need direct debits.
I have the 123 lite & that requires £500 & 2 DD's for cashback on bills. I don't use the debit card, but I'm sure it's only selected shops foe limited time periods for its shopping cashback.

My other half does almost all the grocery shopping shopping and currently has around £200 cashback. So it certainly isn't a false dawn. It's modest in comparison with the amount spent, but still worth having.

These are marketing ploys from the banks. They want to get most marketing bang, for the least amount of money, so of course their rules will be designed for that.

The MSE community has made a game of this, and is good at squeezing as much as possible from what is on offer.... If you don't think it's worth it, and many here don't, then you don't need to play.
  • I think it is rubbish.

As a disabled person that earns MUCH LESS than £1,500 a month

Annoyingly, they told me in the support chat just yesterday that it would be £500 pay in month for my year 2, but today that changed to £1,500 a month.
And lots got y2 for £500, but not everyone who has to pay in £1500.

Even though my cashback expires 14th April, they want me to pay in £1,500 a month in MARCH so I can get cashback from 14th April to 30th April... that's just 2 weeks...

I have sent them feeback about this increase. A £1,000 increase is disgusting.
Companies don't learn how unhappy people are unless they speak up and corporate greed continues, so I always give feedback.
The £1500 doesn't have to all be in one go. If you had the time and inclination, you could move the same £500 between your Chase Account and another non Chase account X3 to meet the requirement.

Chase are sods. Been using my chase debit card for a succession of a few months now. And I now look today to see if any cashback on groceries. Sainsburys- nope, exclusions. Lidl- nope, exclusions apply. Coop-nope, exclusions apply.
So time to find something with a genuine cashback offer.
A Natwest or RBS credit card pays 1% cashback on all supermarket purchases (0.25% on all other purchases). No minimum deposit required. Pay off the credit card in full every month

Also there’s an American Express credit card offering 5% for 5 months then it goes down to 0.5%. You don’t get the cashback until after your year anniversary though and have to spend £3000 in one year on it.

yes I understand it could be difficult to find 1500 pounds but she could always do it in say three lots of 500

    500 in - 500 out etc
Of course  :) ... I'll give it a go on Friday and report back.
So I did £500 in and out three times this morning.

I received a message on my smartphone to say I'd qualified for 'everyday cashback' ... "You've qualified for Everyday cashback! Earn 1% cashback - up to £15 - on everyday debit card spending from 1-30 April. Exceptions and T&Cs apply."

In the app, at the bottom of the home page it stated "Your current cashback offer ends on 31 March. Qualify now for Everyday cashback in April." Selecting it took me to the 'Everyday cashback' page ... a summary followed by a 'How to qualify for 1- 30 April' sentence. At the bottom of this (after an horizontal line) there is a tick "£1,500 paid in. Great job."

  • Off to try the paypal F&F idea now to see if I can sneak in some more cashback for february... happy Leap day!
    @morgmonster

Please report back if this works
Doesn't work.  In the chase app says "this purchase won't earn cashback"
  • I see that in the new T&Cs for the everyday cashback (which wasn't in the previous version) that there is the following: " If we suspect you are abusing this reward you will stop earning cashback and we may close your account. "  Have Chase confirmed that all these in & out transfers to make the £1500 trigger will not be considered abuse?

There have been no problems with the £500 payments that I've seen. It's been a common technique with many banks (dozens?) for a decade or more
