Cloth_of_Gold said:Flyadvice request. As I mentioned before, we bought a new casserole dish recently and I"m wondering what to do with the old one. It's a Le Creuset style (but much cheaper) heavy, cast iron, red enamelled one. It has two very tiny chips on the enamel on one of the handles and one very small one on the edge of the lid. The interior is slightly stained from several years of use, but it really is only a minor thing. My options are: (1) make a 10 mile round trip to the recycling centre, which would best be done on a Sunday morning but would take at least 45 - 50 minutes and use half a gallon of petrol and I have nothing else to take. (2) Take it to a charity shop.
FB marketplace/freecycle.. make the needy come to you
Prescription request sent.. and orders sorted.. and i need a nap.

Morning all. Sorry I've been MIA for most of this week - but I have actually been active!
Happy St David's Day to all with Welsh connections.
Round, I'm adding my congratulations to the newlyweds - so glad they have managed to tie the knot! (and the uniqueness of the wedding venue is an added bonus for the family history memory archive) xx
Very sorry to hear of your OH's redundancy, pigpen. Good luck to him and your DS in their job searches x
ASB, how unfortunate to have two things stop working on the same day! I hope your DD is still on the mend xxx
Hope you can maintain the hydration increase, Valli - I am not good at keeping my personal water content topped up either.
Nice to see you back, mumtoomany. GWS wishes coming your way x
Coming to the end of a very busy week here, but it ain't over yet!
So far today I have
- FUPA the clean washing that was fully aired and moved the rest around on the airer and bathroom radiators
- had breakfast, showered and dressed
- S&S'd the kitchen
- hoovered through downstairs (except DH's room, which he can do himself)
- dusted and hoovered through upstairs
- sorted my budget for March and shifted money around
- ordered DGS4's birthday present at a price which is within my budget
- remembered to give Rosie her flea treatment
- paid the dog walker
- encouraged DH to make a necessary phonecall
- grown my to-do list from 3 to about 12 items that need doing today, not counting those that I've already done.
I want to go to Action Heart this afternoon and also need to do a food shop, then I have to go into the big city this evening to collect my eldest (40yo) goddaughter who has absolutely no sense of direction or ability to read maps, but is coming by train from West Wales which involves 3 or 4 changes! She is staying for the weekend, and I shall probably be hoarse by the time she goes.
Will be back when I can. Hope you all have a bit of sunshine between the showers today (it's sunny here for now) xxx6 -

Builders all but finished, just got to come back on Monday and finish plastering.Dust is 3/4 dealt with, but I bet it needs doing at least twice more and it will drop out of the air.Not too happy with builders, came to see how they were getting on to find, 4 lots of power tool batteries on charge, and 4 mobile phones on charge, they even brought their own phone charging cables with them, I can just about mentally agree with the power tool batteries, but I am not sure at all about the mobile phone charging! Might have a word with the boss man when he comes round to check.Pigpen sorry OH has lost his job, can he apply for anything else within that company?Miss ASB hope you are improving. ABS sorry all has broken down at once.Have a good weekend, I'll be dusting tomorrow, putting back 'stuff' furniture and such like.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

We don't know yet. they are in consultation, those with poor scores/performance will likely be the first offered redundancy. His performance isn't bad he is also a trainer so has other skills. He hates the job and has applied for any others they are offering but will be with the same employer but a different company he will be representing. I'm hoping they offer something with less pressure. It is all very uncertain at the moment.. it is like that limbo time between a death and the funeral when time almost stands still but the world is wobbling.
Time will reveal what fate has planned.

Hi all
I really hope it's good news on the job front Pigpen, it feels like he has had a rough time of it with work.
Odd day. Went to the big city and felt out of sorts. DH likes wandering around the shops but it makes me grumpy unless I actually need things and have money to spend. We did stock up on some odds and ends that we can't buy locally which is good. My week off is coming to an end which isn't helping my mood.
Called to see DS1 on the way home and he had a pot of tea, mugs, milk and biscuits all set out on a tray for us. He has a huge studio room which is immaculate and it's all cozy cushions, throws, pot plants and candles. I am rather proud that he is so domesticated!
Meeting up with DS2 tomorrow for a hike across the moors so I am looking forward to that.5 -
Thank you, @ionafan. Feeling better again today. Hopefully be better still by the end of the weekend. DGD2 was sent home early with a temperature, and vomited all over her car seat. Hope I don't pick that big up!
Flying, I managed to make and cook, a chicken and mushroom pie, a chicken and bacon pie, and two parkin cakes, all from scratch, using only one hand. I was on the phone to DS-i-L, DB-i-L, DD3, DS-i-L again then DD3 and DS1. World now all put to rights. DD3 been offered a job, she's delighted.
Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.5 -
@ionafan thanks for the lovely daffs.
@kazwookie it probably doesn't cost much to charge a mobile phone but they should definitely ask - especially when they are charging 4, plus power tools. A ordered with their boss is definitely in order.
@pigpen As my mother used to say, 'it will all come out in the wash' but nevertheless the uncertainty is unsettling.
@YORKSHIRELASS I have a vision of you and your daughter jumping and twirling around the moor singing "Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy I've come home, I'm so cold, let me in your window......"
Re the casserole dish, I'm not on FB so can't do that but put it on another social media site for free-cycling and rubbish removal that I used once before but forgot about. I'll also take it to a charity shop to see if they're interested but I suspect I'll end up driving to the recycling centre with it though....
This morning I wrote a card to our elderly friend in Plymouth, posted it and bought the paper. Went out to the shops at the end of the road, but more for a walk than anything and I only bought one thing. Came back and made lunch and washed up. Went through all the things I decluttered from the top of the printer and filed or threw them away. A couldn't find any record of our car insurance, either in hard copy or emails and was worried about it. In the end we found the payment on his online banking so we did do it but goodness know where the record of it is. Anyway, it's coming up for renewal shortly so it doesn't matter.
After lunch A had a phone call with the physio, who gave him an additional 3 exercises. The laundry came back and I put it away. Supervised A's stair exercises, made tea and washed up, made supper, washed up, helped him with his new exercises.
Eye drops x 5.
Will put out his breakfast things in a bit, do the night time eye routine and that's it for another day.

Hope Mr Pigpen finds work soon.
Various other spoons and hugs to those needing it for health/dodgy appliances/BD etc.
I was determined to get some flying out of the way before my Step class, so blitzed the en suite, tidied a bit in the lounge, polished the lounge coffee table, disposed of an old flower arrangement, emptied vacuum cleaner and put the DW on.
Came back from gym and put one load of washing on; wind was biting cold but it was intermittently sunny so managed to dry washing outside.
Did some of a report. Need to keep up as I have quite a lot going on socially in the next couple of months, so the time will disappear.
Did some drum practice.
Latest fingerless gloves are finished and just need sewing up; I'll take them to church on Sunday so the waterways chaplain can find them a good home with a cold boater.
I've started putting together a photo book as Flick£ sent me a 'free' voucher - although I think it is for one of the smallest books.
Rang my Mum and also an old school friend; both of them talk for England so I need to plan my time!
About to order a Mother's day gift; had hoped DB would go halves with me as it is a bit more than I'd usually spend - but he's not in favour; he doesn't earn much so I'll get it myself. Tricky as his lifestyle has been his choice entirely - he never seems to resent the fact that I earn more, but I don't like to rub it in. However, Mum is 92 and if I can afford to buy her something she will like and use, then why not?
Lake swimming will be dependent on weather tomorrow, forecast isn't great - cold I don't mind, but cold wind is not nice as the 'changing facilities' comprise my car and a windy car park!
Have a good weekend people.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.6
