But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

    As at 15.07.25:
    - When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £233,521
    - OPs to mortgage = £11,338 Interest saved £5225 to date
    Fixed rate 3.85% ends January 2030

    Read 40 books of target 52 in 2025, as @ 29th July
    Produce tracker: £243 of £300 in 2025

    MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. May 1st, £116, 123, June 1st, £115,536, New mortgage added for extension- £165,000 July 1st!
    Mortgage Overpayments - September-December, £152.46. J- £103.27, F- £115, M- £91.50, A- £100, M- £200, J- £200. J- £200.
    Total- £1162.23
    Goal pay off 1% of current mortgage in 1 year. £1200. (96.83% there)

    EF- first goal £300

    Been contemplating cutting hours and slowing down repayments again but I think I will do another year at current hours and see how it goes. I really want the mortgage GONE!

    Since posting this I have almost done a complete turnaround and 75% certain I am going to cut my hours.

    Could you look at doing a side hustle of some kind, rather than more hours in your main job (which does sound tiring tbf)? That way you can still OP the mortgage but you might get a better work-life balance?

    Well done on the overpayments!   Another milestone!     I also do not notice the round ups - always think it is a nice little bonus.
    Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

    In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

    I will still be OPing, saving money, saving 60th holiday money and having the same spends KK so perhaps in the future but not now for a side hustle. I need more down time but there is always OT available so maybe an extra shift here and there when it suits me.

     It’s great Watty, I was such a sceptic but it’s working well!
