  • hi, I am currently trying for the natwest switch bonus. I’ve never had a switch bonus for them but I did get an RBS one approx 2 years ago. I took the plunge to attempt when I’ve seen some have gotten them when previously having a bonus from the group. What are my chances ?? If it works I’ll try the Ulster one?
  • My husband has the natwest one last year so is it worth trying for the Ulster / RBS one for him? Was going to wait to see if I get a NatWest one before trying for the others

If you switch into an existing a/c that had received a bonus last year then I think it unlikely you'd get another bonus this time. This was my experience when I failed to get a bonus last year.

    That's my opinion too.

If you had closed last year's a/c after getting the bonus and now switched into a new a/c then you'd have a better chance on getting a 2nd bonus. This was my wife's experience last year.

I closed the Ulster account last year (switched it out) after getting the bonus, so maybe I could try it that way rather than with the existing NatWest?

I had the incentive from NatWest last February (2023) and have just received the £200 switch bonus from Ulster Bank. I've opened a new RBS Select Account as well. Their debit card arrived today, and I'm hoping to get the bonus from them too.

(In the case of Ulster, I had set up their Loyalty Saver account a couple of months ago in the hope it would help to make any future application for their current account go more smoothly, which it did.)

Has anyone received the switch offer payment with out paying money in after the switch completed. As my wife switched to a new NatWest account on the 29th . She had more than enough money in her old account to not need to pay on more but has still not received anything. All other requirements have been done . My switch completed a day later into my existing NatWest also not received anything.

    He who dares, Rodney ;)
It's not not getting the incentive that concerns me, more a ban which would preclude me from any further switch offers. But then, it's going to be years before I become eligible for any again.
I think you'd be wise not to push your luck with RBS. Unless something's changed within the last year I suspect your efforts would be fruitless anyway.

When LBG gave me a lifetime ban last year (I suspect using them for too many short lived donor accounts in a short space of time won't have helped matters) I switched many of my LBG accounts elsewhere just to make life easier in the event that a payment was ever made to any of them after the accounts were closed.

I had already received the £150 switching offer from RBS in 2022 but not bothered with NatWest/Ulster at that time. After accidentally getting £200 each from NatWest/Ulster I decided to try my luck with RBS as I still had LBG accounts I wanted to switch out. RBS never paid me the £200 if this is anything to go by.
Having just set up a Chase account, then within minutes switched to Ulster Bank, I’m kind of terrified!
I set up 2 Chase account burners and within minutes switched to NW and RBS, and have absolutely no qualms. If you're terrified, maybe that's an indication it's time for you to stop chasing switching bonuses.
@Dominic_Blake1's response is understandable IMHO. Personally I would be inclined to go a little easier with regards to using Chase for multiple donor accounts given my experiences so far. As late as March 2023 I thought that LBG didn't care too much about serial switchers, indeed I seem to recall some of my posts and PMs from around this time were to that effect. It didn't age well... and Chase have had some pretty good offerings in the past.

At the heart of my attitude to banking there is still a desire to get as much money as I can out of the banks. Previously I would try and squeeze every last penny out of them, going as far as stoozing a £50 0% OD and fully utilising the 2p/transaction for using my  Co-op debit card without a second thought. These days though I'm all too aware that if I take too many liberties in too short a timeframe the banks will react badly and this can be costly.

I still chase the best savings rates, get something from the reward accounts and will do the occasional switching offer if I'm eligible for it but I'm careful not to go too far. I resisted the urge to stooze a £1.5k 0% Santander OD whilst I have their 7% edge saver fully funded (though I have dodged the Santander Edge account fees), I no longer do the £1.01 debit card deposits into NS&I to generate NatWest/RBS round ups into the digital regular savers etc.

I currently have a few spare current accounts that have been open for a year or so with different banks that I plan to use for future switching offers, one of which has a couple of credit card DDs set up on it so I'm not going to be opening any current accounts which are switched out a few weeks later like I used to. This way I hope to be able to still profit from the banks but also avoid getting any more lifetime bans so I can benefit from the offers for much longer and therefore gain more over the long term.

Miy switch was a day after on the 1st so not expecting it till a day after the wife's. Just wasn't sure if it was worth just paying the money in again to make sure

To early to tell. Payments have generally been 2 working days after the requirements have been met.
