If you go here https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ you can check when the last V5 was issued.

The above is a really good link, at least to put your mind are rest about transferring ownership, its towards the bottom "Date of last V5C (logbook) issued", see if it matches closely to your sale receipt date. As others side though dont get caught up in this.

Remember what this is, it is a well rehearsed and repeated scam, using the UK's legal system to scare people into payment. Thats the whole goal. Pressure and scare. Once you've been through it, you'll look back and see it for what it is. But during, I know its horrible. Been through it myself.

You'll get the help you need on here. Just remove the thought of the legal firms as being legit big time solicitors, they're not. They're no different to the Prince of Nigeria who often emails everyone saying he needs to give his £1billion US dollars away to you. Good luck
Thanks, I have checked and it shows closer to the date that I changed the keeper online but I don't know what it showed before as I never checked.

I understand what you're saying about not worrying but there is a concern, especially with this new post in this thread about the clock ticking about enforcement/ccj. I understand that's not the post you made though so thanks for the reassurance.
  • I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing or not after all that has happened.

I shall just wait and see that's all I can do. It doesn't help that I am so anxious because of not knowing what could happen. Forums like these are a lifeline though.

I did manage to change the keeper online to the 1) new owner details when I was aware of what had happened and I did backdate to the date the vehicle was sold. I then put a SAR through with DVLA so I'm waiting for that and hopefully it shows when the vehicle was owned to when it was sold - which was long before all these tickets started to come through the post. That then covers me to a degree.

    2) I personally have to clue if it will be a LoC or a CCJ or if some random enforcement agents will show up. I've only learned these terms and how this all works through this forum and reading what people have gone through.

If it's a LoC surely that means court? Or is court just bypassed and someone puts through a CCJ?

If it does proceed to a CCJ, I will just have to deal with that when it happens and attempt to defend myself.

Worst comes to worst, I pay the absolutely ridiculous fee for something that really was not my fault, though it was to a degree when I didn't chase up the DVLA back when vehicle was sold.
I think you need to read the NEWBIE sticky again as you seem to have totally the wrong idea about how the system works.
    1) The DVLA only records registered keepers, not owners, in fact if you look on the front of your V5C, it states it is not proof of ownership.
    2) A LOC/LBC/LBCCC will arrive before a N1 court claim form and then you get a chance to defend in court and only IF you lose and even then, fail to pay the amount as directed by the judge before the deadline set by that judge, will a CCJ be issued.  CCJ's can only be issued by a judge, not by some random person!  Bailiffs and/or court enforcement officers cannot show up unless and until a CCJ is issued and not paid.

    A LoC is just a pre-court letter.

You won't be dealing with the TEC as mentioned by the last poster because they were talking about a Council penalty, which yours isn't.

    You won't get enforcement agents.

You won't get a CCJ with us looking after you.

Nope.  No danger with us. Nothing will happen that you can't easily defend and win. No risk.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I'll echo what the many, many posters have said on here. You all do fabulous work in helping. I appreciate all the advice I've been given so far so thank you!!

Echoing whats already said. Pay attention to the wording of their letters. you "may" get a CCJ, or similar terms used. They use the word CCJ as their second biggest scare word, next to legal. Remember the goal is to scare you into paying before court, because court is where these scams go to die.

Do not pay them, unless a judge orders you to.

You sound very similar to me :) and here I am dipping on and off the forum, having been through it, realising its copy and paste for them and how their slimy scare tactics work - until you find this forum

This forum has been a lifeline. Many times I've wanted to just give in and pay to stop these hounding letters but I won't.
