@Humboldt - just had to google as never heard of the Coast to Coast walk. Very impressive, will you do an organised walk or book accommodation yourself? I get slight vertigo now, not sure I could do that. We did a walk, think it was called Cats Ghyll near Keswick a couple of years ago. The weather changed unexpectedly during the walk, hailstones, snow and strong wind. It was a steep climb and walking across rocks. My husband was like a one man rescue team helping me across. At the end I just lay on the floor with snow falling around me with the relief of finishing it. So maybe Coast to Coast shouldn’t be on my bucket list
Have you read the Salt Path about a couples walking adventures ? I like books like that. Loved Bill Bryson’s Walk in The Woods.

Morning all, hope that you have a good day. @bluenose1 re: your query about the Coast to Cost walk. We have no actual plans as yet, it has just been added to our retirement list. We will probably use the services provided by P@ck H0rse Ltd, but not sure whether we will do the actual walk independently, or as a group. The weather in the Lakes certainly makes you feel alive, but safety is paramount. The Salt Path is one of my favourite reads, also enjoyed The Wild Silence and Landlines. I am hoping that the next book will focus on the rewilding of the land surrounding the farmhouse. Thanks for the book recommendation, I will have a peep in the charity shops for a copy of A Walk in the Woods.1

Sorry to hear about the puppy but puppies are very hard work anyway.
Would you consider an older dog? rescue? I suspect there will be many dogs looking for new homes as a result of vet charges. My friend paid £90 for consultation & ear drops last week.
Someone locally supports a dog rescue in Romania & they bring dogs in from there for rehoming.
I've always had rescue mixed breed dogs. My beautiful boy is now 12 but still thinks he's a pupski!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Have decided not to get another dog for the time being @Katiehound. We have too much going on at the moment helping various friends and family pack up to move house. Also have some trips away booked which would not be conducive to having a dog with us.4

Well after 3 days last week in Cambridgeshire helping my brother in law pack up his garage and take down a shed ready for his house move, today we are off down to Boston to help another friend in the same situation. Our friends have split up after 28 years together and it is very hard seeing him having to move from a lovely home into a smaller one. We have been party to what has happened and he is in no way to blame but because he still cares he is constantly trying to stick up for her which makes us uncomfortable. My brother in laws situation is roughly the same but on a much larger scale - moving from a very fine large house to a very small terrace house in need of total renovation. because of the property prices in the area he lives. Both are in their 60's and it is so sad. we are just trying to help in any way we can but it is distressing for us to see.
On a lighter note I had a baking day yesterday and made a banana loaf. Also tried out the new Jamie Oliver air fryer recipe for cheese and chive scones - which were delicious.3 -
How sad Uralmaid, statistics show a lot of people split up at that age. Sometimes wonder why that is, maybe it's the realisation you only get one chance at life and our own mortality. Though split ups in my own personal experience are because they have met someone new. Feel sorry for your friend and brother in law, massive life changes for then both....
Ooh air fryer scones sound lovely, especially as my oven has broke. Have ordered a new one from John Lewis coming tomorrow so looking forward to my new gizmo
Trying to lose weight so will need to think of some "allowed" treats to cook.
