You can speed up defrosting by putting the offending item in a large bowl of cold water, if anyone else is in a panic.

  • On the subject of cooking faux pas.....my brother's Turkey crown hadn't fully defrosted and I left the giblets bag in the turkey! Ooops.

Hi @uralmaid I enjoyed reading about your Christmas baking and cooking.  I'm sure that it was much appreciated and enjoyed by all.  @bluenose1 pleased to read that your Christmas shopping arrived and hope that the turkey defrosted in time.  Wishing you both and anyone else reading this, a very Happy New Year.

@Humboldt. Thank you. It was all well received.  I made a Christmas cake this year for the first time in ages. As I was skimming though my books, hubby saw a new recipe for a Christmas cake with less dried fruit. (He has an ileostomy and can't eat  things such as dried fruits, nuts etc)  I said I would try it and woe betide him if if wasn't nice.  I added glace cherries to replace nuts.  We cut into it on Christmas eve and it was lovely. The fruit was all well distributed and hadn't sunk and it was lovely and moist. (That could have been in part due to the copious amounts of cherry brandy I laced it with. Wishing you and anyone else reading a very Happy and healthy New Year.

New year,  new things to get done.  Today I was over excited.  Last year my daughter gave me an Amaryllis in Wax.  After it had finished flowering I duly followed the instructions and kept hoping to see new signs of life, but nothing.  Today I decided it had had long enough to perform and was going to banish it to the polutunnel. Lo and behod a new leaf has suddenly appeared so it has had a reprieve.

We need to source a new towel radiator the same size with fixings in the same place as the current one.  We had the upstairs bathroom refitted 2 years ago and the radiator has completely rusted . I wouldn't care but it wasn't a cheap one.  Also the bathroom furniture is going to be replaced as the dark blue finish on it is starting to peel.  We paid quite a lot of money for it but not up to the job.  The problem is that whatever bathroom sites you look at, they all have what are obviously the same units, albeit with different names.  Have ended up choosing some from Ikea which are cheaper and have a 10 year guarantee so we shall see. Also we have been trying to source a replacement wc.  All the modern ones seem to have an insubstantial flush.

On Monday I am going to contact the company I have ordered my potting shed from too. We ordered on 26th October and it still shows as being in the "making" stage. The delivery was supposed to be 5-6 weeks. I rang them 2 weeks before Xmas and they assured me it was coming the week after - but no sign of it.

I also am now looking to book a holiday cottage in Inverness area for June.  We booked a cottage for May to Dumfries and Galloway intending to go up on the new motorcycle and tour around. Then my B in L said he wanted to come for a couple of days so we could visit relatives in Dumfries.  Then my niece deided she wants to come too so there will be virtually no time for touring around so we will probably go in the car. Best laid plans and all that. Oh well - onwards and upwards - watch this space.

    "insubstantial flush."

I think you need to "log" a complaint and "dump" the company you bought it from.

Sounds good progress on your bathroom @uralmaid. My husband is still sorting out the leak in our downstairs bathroom so still out of action. :(.  I think we are going to have to get plumber out to sort who has already advised will be a difficult job and he will have to remove some tiles…… Might have to start looking to see if I can get replacements.
