I wrote a longish piece and then lost it!

I meant to post after the first lot of itches but decided I just had to do it now!

I have several gadgets, one actually lives in the car!
I call it it a zapper.
If you place it over the bite and depress the button/trigger up to 20 times it should prevent the histamine reaction. You need to use it as soon as possible after the incident for maximum effect.
Last month a horse fly got me but I was quick with the zapper- and no reaction.  You can not use this if you have doused yourself in spirit based repellent.

£6-£8 If you google you will find some different gadgets "  insect bite zapper"

I have at least one of these (and see they are on offer)

You can have a slightly unpleasant sensation where the skin is thin, like on the wrist- but nothing like the normal histamine reaction.

the bugs absolutely love me so I am paranoid about providing an insect feast!!

  • Thanks @Katiehound. I have had one of these for years. I always find it takes away the itch for a bit but then it comes back. :(

Yes, I've got one of these, haven't tried it this year TBH but I don't think I'd want to use it on any which looks as if they're blistering! We're off on holiday soon, hopefully warm, so I intend to be slathered in repellent. Helpful tip about not mixing the two!

What I'm planning to do in my garden is plant some mozzie deterring plants! I understand there's a kind of geranium they don't like. Of course they might be horseflies or some other pest, so it may not help, but at least the geraniums will look pretty.

Badger dug up some carrots last night. Grrr. They're tiny, so no use to him. Have replanted a few, with no confidence,  and brought in the tops he'd broken off to eat.

  • Flippin Badgers are a nightmare in our garden. They like to dig up my lawn in the back, and the moles dig in the front!!
  • Sorry you are troubled by wildlife... but in a way lucky you. All I have seen lately is a squashed hedgehog on the road, so sad as their numbers have dwindled so much in town, (well, everywhere I understand.)

If you are feeling energetic & haven't done it before I see that you can once again climb the 199 steps  to the top of St. James' spire as the peregrines have flown.  This is the tallest medieval church spire in Britain for any one interested. great view from the top on a clear day.

Just to say about the zapper. I click about 10 times, then maybe a minute later do the same, repeat a few times. I have never had the itch come back 'though last time there was a little red spot where the horsefly had attacked me!

  • Hate horseflies. Been stung by one before and ended up having to go to A and E as my arm swelled so much.  Don't think I will be climbing the 199 steps. My hips aren't up to it.  Going away for a few days soon on our new motorcycle/trike.  We get back just in time for the Louth Food and Drink festival so hopefully will be able to visit that. We have been decorating this last week and have finally got it finished. Now waiting for furniture company to tell us when they can deliver. It is the last room to be decorated wince we moved here. Won't be long before we need to start all over again lol. :

  • Morning @uralmaid hope that you have had a good weekend. Having mentioned that Christmas emails have begun to appear in my inbox, at the weekend I noticed that S@insbury's were selling mince pies!. I do get that people have to budget and may wish to buy early, but autumn hasn't officially begun yet.

@Savvy_Sue I am like chocolate cake to mozzies, but strangely only when on holiday in other countries.  My symptoms are as you have described. Over the years I have tried various creams and the 'zapper', but now I just take an antihistamine which helps considerably.

  • Thanks @Humboldt. Yes - had a lovely weekend.  Hope you did too.  From now on it will be an onslaught of Christmas ads I suppose.  I think it used to be so much nicer when ads and shop displays didn't start until the beginning of December. It seemed more special to look forward to Christmas then.  My Daughter is a total Christmas fiend. She starts planning in January!
