grandmanerd: unless you already have a single, would a smaller bed be a viable option as and when you could afford one?9

Just WOW @grandmanerd for your two inspirational posts this morning! You've really fired up my intentions and given me food for thought but not sure about the bathroom bit as unfortunately ours is a bit too small for some of the shenanigans you suggest!
I've always been a fan of leaving things better than they were/washing all dishes and putting them away before bed etc but unfortunately it's the bigger tasks that go on the back burner and I need to put together a Spring Cleaning and Clearing regime this month.
Sounds like you are really grabbing February by the scruff of the neck, fantastic! x9 -
Sorry, Dawn. I meant to add I hope you catch up with your brother and he is OK. xxxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.10

My most important task today was to do the house inspection (grandma's house). DS3 asked where I was going and asked if I wanted him to come so we both went. It's a bit of a mess. DS3 was glad we didn't take Beloved. It's mostly superficial but there's lots to clear out (2 more double beds, one of which is broken, lots of clothes, a bike, spices and glasses in the kitchen cupboards), it needs cleaning, the carpets need cleaning or replacing, some painting has been done but all the neutral decor needs at least one more coat and the bedrooms are burnt orange and deep blue respectively. The back yard is overgrown - DS3 had to crawl through to reach the back door (after we'd failed to open the front door - I noticed the second keyhole whilst waiting for DS3 to come through the house).
I went down the road to get my niece (all the way from number 13 to number 5). She was working but was due a break so logged out. I asked about my brother and he seems to be coping better with the cancer treatment. I told her I'd decided to buy out my brother's half of grandma's house but whilst I don't want to cheat him, I need the house valued according to it's current state as I will need to pay someone to do a lot of the work (probably needs rewiring as the plugs are few and far between). She thinks the lodger should not have left it like that and I should call him and ask him to sort it out. She went back to work, I called a taxi and sent DS3 back upstairs to fill a bin bag with soft toys for me to wash and take to the cs. Lodger's daughter has moved out and has 2 children of her own but there were lots of no longer loved toys in her room (and the 2 wardrobes, 2 sets of drawers, desk and chair I gave them in 2007 - what was left of my boys stuff).
I was sneezing before I went and the dust has made it worse. DS3 asked if I'd forgotten to take my antihistamine this morning as I was sneezing a lot. Got back home and decided I needed a lie down but I've played the stress buster pod and am feeling better now. I knew it would be another elephant, at least I now know what's needed - just need to break it down into smaller jobs and fit it in, alongside everything else.
Gratitudes - knowing what needs to be done at grandma's house, Ds3 offering to come with me (especially for him walking downstairs in front of me so I couldn't see the drop), my stress buster pod cast.
Tiny wins - Ds3 wrote the email to the auctioneers asking them to collect the classical vinyl for auctioning (I'll just be glad to get it out of the house), the lovely stress buster pod and my bed11 -
Grateful for chat with some parents in the playground at pick up time, for some nice V!ntD purchases arriving (for OH’s birthday), for getting a couple of decent surveys on PA and a wee payout, and for OH making dinner.NST 🐢 & MF before 40 🤸10

@grandmanerd I think I am guilty of referring to bedmaking as a 5 min job - apologies, I totally understand your post! to be honest, it's not proper bed making in that time for me either. I have embraced coverless duvets and given up totally on the duvet fight as I really am quite lazy about the making! I have also made a note not to appear unannounced at the bottom of your stairs! 🔪
some great tips and helpful insight thank you!9 -
Thanks for your concern Turtles, I managed to get my brother on the phone this morning before work and he says he is feeling much better today, much to my relief. I reminded him that the hospital staff are ready and willing to help him, but he must let them know if he has problems. Anyway, I will be picking him up on Sunday, to stay here overnight in readiness for an early start on Monday morning.Work was ok-ish. The shop was busy in the morning, but dead this afternoon, which makes the time go very slowly to closing time.OH agreed that I can donate a large item of furniture to charity so I went to the shop before work (and before he could change his mind) and arranged for them to pick it up next Wednesday
I will be at the hospital but OH will be here to let them in. I am liking the new to us sofas which have made the sitting room much cosier for us and more welcoming for visitors. I have sold 3 large items of furniture which has mostly covered the cost of the 'new' things, and freed up much more space. If it weren't for OH, I would do similar in the rest of the house, but happy with it for now.
Today turned out to be NSD2, as I couldn't be bothered to go to the supermarket after work. Will probably go tomorrow. I intend to do some batch cooking over the weekend to ensure that we have food ready for after multiple hospital trips during the coming week, to avoid takeaways, which are so expensive and to be honest, we don't like them much. I will go through the freezer, larder and fridge first to ensure I am using up what we already have.Grateful today that my brother is feeling better, for a cosier home and OH agreeing to get rid of a large item (and the resulting donation to the local hospice shop)10 -
