I had to bring mine into the warm to get them to come. But OOOOOOOHHHH, they were the nicest mushrooms I have ever eaten! And the delicate, dusky pink gills were so pretty! Figured in the wild, you get warm dry weather, then a thunderstorm when everything gets wet and cold, then it begins to warm up a bit again, which when the fungus get going.
If nothing happens, maybe it's worth a try?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
i really want them to grow so bad i have checked them today and again nothing i think i may have planted them wrongly or something lol
if there is nothing by the weekend there going in my airing cupboardyou cant change yesterdaybut you can make tomorrow better0 -
I would love to start growing my own, the only 'warm space' we have is in the airing cubboard or the cubboard above the boiler, would this be sufficient?
Can you buy different types of spores or do you get these from a parent mushroom, im quite interested in growing some of the wild varieties.0 -
We have a thread similar to this already, I'll add your query to it so all the replies are together. Posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning to catch up0

Hiya I had a £4.99 mushroom kit, I had to empty the compost in and put it in the airing cupboard for about 8 days then spray it regularly with water, we had loads of mushies off it-it was great fun for my son seeing them grow, they literally grow overnight once the buds form, you have to have just the right temp for them though. Also when you think your crop has died keep spraying as usually you will get a couple more srops. Good luck!0

I got one of those grow your own mushroom kits.
Followed all the instructions, the mycelium grew as expected, but no mushrooms have grown and it's been a couple of weeks now.
I water every day, keep in a dark place around 20c, but nothing's happening!'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
my DH has been trying to grow mushrooms with these kits for years and he's got a grand total of... err.. ONE mushroom!
It must have cost about forty quid!!!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
Am I the only one who's a bit suspicious? Home-grown 'mushrooms'...?0

I am just about to start a new kit, plus plant some pellets into a log in the garden. I haven't had luck in the past, so I will let you know if I get lucky. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Neither I or my Dad had any success with mushroom kits last year. We do however seem to be able to sprout the non eating variety in the garden with no problems round the bottom of two tree stumps0
