I got a unwins kit from woolies for about £3 and have it sitting on the floor in my kitchen.
It has taken about 3 weeks but i have the start of mushrooms growing.0 -
I've got one too, my parents bought it for me, so technically it was free. Will see if I get any results.0

We got a kit from a Farmers market and it's been amazing! It's a company called Ardnamushrooms and the kit was for oyster mushrooms - oh wow! It cost £8 and we've had 3 crops of mushrooms from it - huge, beautiful, really tasty mushrooms and it was so easy. You shock the block in cold water outside for 2 nights then bring it indoors to live in a box covered in cling film and the mushrooms just pop out like, well, mushrooms! can't recommend the company highly enough - only downside is expensive postage (because it's heavy) if you can't get to one of the markets they sell at. Absolutely foolproof.

. Has anyone used one of these and was it successful? or does anyone have any tips?
ps the kit was reduced to only £2.49 so no huge investment, lol. We can always recycle the compost and stuff at the very least
I bought one put it in my warm attic done everything it said nothing waited and waited still nothing. so i forgott about it checked on it a couple of weeks later and there in the box was the biggest mushroom i had ever seen about the size of a dinner plate lol.:cool:The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0 -
i bought the unwins kit from woolies too, haven't started yet but i'm actually very excited (how sad!) x
Another question, the picture on the side of the box says to put the lid on, the only lid i got is the cardboard outer sleeve, am i missing something? lol x0 -
Hi,
Last year I got a kit from aldi. It grew 1 enourmous mushroom, but nothing else.0 -
I remember when I was about 7 my dad got me a mushroom kit for my birthday. I love mushrooms and we did this kit. We had a spray gun to water it and put it in the airing cupboard.
I remember getting loads of mushrooms it was great. Growing my own mushrooms and picking them and cooking them. Great fun.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
We've tried the expensive logs and the compost in a box.
Nothing.
A few annoying flies bred in the compost box.0 -
I got an Unwins kit for Christmas from by big bro'. I'm on my second 'flush' of mushrooms. The first flush was smaller than I would have liked but they were nice big solid clean bright white closed cup mushrooms. The kit had been on top of my freezer in the cupboard under the stairs where the single glazed window is (seemed to be about the right temperature). I think I over-watered once I had picked the shrooms and stopped others growing. I moved the box because it was awkward to get to so put it under small table. The second flush came two weeks later, lots of pinhead mushrooms appeared but I didn't water as much and ended up with about 10 tall thin pale brown mushrooms which were fully opened and fell out of the soil when I moved the box. I've just put the box back on top of the freezer and will water well once the currently small mushrooms begin to grow again.
I had a kit many years ago which I'm sure said to water with a litre every other day but I maybe wrong?
