I got the kit from Woolies last year and nothing happened. Very dissapointing as it sounded so easy on the box!

Has anyone tried growing them from suttons dry spawn. I have just bought a packet and a bag of farmyard manure but I was hoping to grow them outside. I thought about putting them in my grow house but I remember reading about flies being a problem and I don't really want flies around my seedlings (if they ever germinate). Any advice?

i had unwins kit last year had loads of mushrooms from it only problem i found was that it said put the lid on it which was the outta sleeve and if i forgot to check on mushrooms for a couple of days they had grown touching cardboard lid and went brown n yukky apart from that i was impressed with the kit as i bought it half price.

I used the woolies one last year, and it was great! I think the secret is the alternating of the temp. One little bit of advice, the mushrooms can appear suddenly, then within a day or two shoot up. So keep a close eye on them. Once they start to appear extend with extra card round the lid to increase the height it sits at. I say this only because mine in the space of a few hours grew huge:eek: and I do mean huge:eek: it was great fun and I am off to buy another kit tomorrow.:D

I've got one too, my parents bought it for me, so technically it was free. Will see if I get any results.

Well scrap that, it went in the compost bin today as the soil had grown bluemould!!!

Bloomin things, bet they grow in the compost bin now :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • Last week I decided I was going to throw the box onto the garden, I take the lid of and low and behold I have mushrooms. :D Not just one but two of the beautys.

I moved the box to the porch and about 2 weeks later I have more than a handful of tiny mushrooms popping up. I took a picture as I was so shocked and suprised that something had appeared. :T

i have only managed to grow two huge mushrooms so far, although there are a few more pinheads coming up. How many flushes are these kits good for? x
  • The box reckons three flushes. I took the plunge about a month ago (the woolies one) and finally have the startings of mushrooms. Pity I am off on my holls at the weekend, Brother will try to keep an eye but I don't hold out too much hope.

I got an Unwins kit for Xmas. I nutured it for weeks and nothing grew. I eventually threw the compost on my veggie patch after it turned grey. Today there was one massive mushroom amongst my beans so I ate it, raw and covered in dirt :D
