I worked in next about 9 yrs ago and the sale stuff could be very strange stuff that I hadn't seen in store in the time I worked there, but it all had next tags on, but there was also stuff from the store aswell, iyswim?0

by law it has to be on sale for like 3 months before a sale at full price. But the products sole intention is just to go in the sale0

Bit like managers specials then? I think women like the 'sales' like some men like the cup finals, its just what we do.0

The last few Next sales we popped into, it's clear they've shipped in some older "tat" for sale, and lots of the decent stuff is shoved behind in the changing rooms. The ones in Cambridge are full of Hawaiian shirts and shorts and plenty of cheap clothing that I've never seen sold before in the shop or in the directory, it's all a big con, but nought as stupid as a consumer thinking they are getting a bargain. People queuing for ages, buying much more than they need or will wear, the shops are laughing.
The only bargains, are if you've picked something specifically out at full price before the sales, and that is then on sale at whatever discount.
You'd have to pay me quite a fee to be up queuing at Next at 5am, in fact, you'd have to pay me to go anywhere near the place when it's crawling with people desperate to get a bargain, pushing, shoving and generally being revolting!0 -
Well said isofa.
I personally hate the next sale. A rail full of clothes which will end up all on the floor. People treat it with no respect. Id rather pay full price if it meant i could shop without some bargain mad woman digging her elbows into my side.0 -

That must be just where you live, because in Tamworth everyone was well mannered and full of conversation. Not everybody is like the idiots I saw on the News this morning fighting with the SA outside the shops in London0 -
Lets face it, times have changed. There are bargains to be had throughout the year be it online or in the shops. Just advertise sale on T.v and you get people pushing and shuving, standing for ages. And just for items that the stores can,t sell or goods that are not even cheap. Like the three seater setee that has been reduced from £1400 down to £399 ?. Dont get me wrong i love a bargain, but only if it is a bargain0

Really, perhaps it was so cold there, things hadn't got going!
I completely concur with vixarooni.
I don't think it's just where we live. It's a standard sales behaviour pattern, push, shove, grab all the normal sizes, leaving oodles of XXL all over the floor. It's well documented in some very interested thesis connected with the siege mentality and the appearance of a bargain, despite all not being as it seems. It happens in many shops too, Debenhams is another classic, god help anyone who ventures into Topshop, it's like that on a normal day, let alone a sale!
I've never seen a busy sale (especially in the first few days) in London, Cambridge or anywhere else for that matter, where people browse quietly and move aside to let others look - if anyone has seen this happens perhaps they could post a video on YouTube!
I watched people grabbing all they could in Selfridge's in Birmingham on Boxing Day on the news, not sure those women really needed that many handbags!
We all love a bargain, but only if it is a genuine bargain.0 -
Am gutted that a coat I bought for my hubby for xmas is now half price :-(
do they give u the difference if its been reduced if you go in with ur receipt?
Thanks0 -
You could return it if it were faulty for a full refund with receipt, I doubt they would refund you half because its in the sale now, you wouldn't expect to give them extra money if the price went up 2 weeks after you brought it, but its worth a try I guess.0
