DFS SCAMS

My Ex has a sofa from DFS and it is lovely. It arrived late but other than that no issues. He didn't buy insurance or PPI. It is really comfy and the fabric has lasted well so far (5 years)
If you don't like the hard sell from DFS etc, have you had a look at Ikea ? I have just a cheap Klippan which is neither long lasting nor very comfortable, but it didn't cost much either. We just have it until we have saved enough money for a proper one. No 0% free credit at Ikea, but also no hard sell (more like try and find someone to buy it) and the prices are reasonable.
We used to have 2 local upholsterers, but they have both closed down, so no luck there. We are still saving, so not sure where we will get the "proper" sofa from. I have noticed though that DFS only seems to have 4 or 5 styles. The sofas are just variations on those with minor differences, which put me off a bit and also a lot of their sofas are very large, which makes them comfy but is not suitable for our very small Victorian front room.0 -
I think it's a case of youse gets whats you pay for. I bought2 sofa's from there last year£700 odd each, nice leather. Theyr'e fab and still good as new. I should think so, I haven't started paying yet. I took the 0% interest over 3 years - No payment protection needed, and no early settlement fee should i wish to pay off.
Sorry you had a bum deal

Were the same. We didn't need to take out any prtection. I did take out insurance due to my excessive clumsiness!! Sofa is fine and I've have it since May.0 -
hi everyone,
i have just found this forum, while looking on the net.
my name is derek homer and i own foam wizards ltd
i supply the upholstery/furniture trade (not dfs), if i can be of any help to anyone please get in touch
we have replaced 100's of dfs seats over the past year or so.
i know what goes in to suites and how much they cost and were they are made for dfs.
the trouble is with dfs they make there suites to a very small budget 195 - 295 the odd one might be more,
but most in my trade budget for about 500-1000 cost and make a small markup as were dsf make a massive markup.
there main supplyer is ultra furniture pennsnett in the west midlands.
i have seen the specs for the foam and its crap most use 1 1/4" - 1 1/2 foam for arm dfs uses 1/2"
also there foam suppler uses 'b' garde and not 'a' which is half the price and last have as long
like i said if i can be of any help please get in touch

Hi,
I recently placed a review on the dreams.co.uk website for a mattress. The review was poor because of the product itself and because it developed a fault. There were 3 other excellent reviews for the item and the administrators did not upload my review. Does this suggest that some online shops only publish the good reviews and choose to ignore the bad ones?0 -
Hi,
I need some advise. My DFS recliner chair is 14 months old and still in warranty.
It wasn't working properly and a DFS furniture man visited me last week and has ordered a new motor in order to fix it. DFS have phoned me this morning to advise me that the motor won't be delivered until mid-February at the earliest.
Daoes anyone know if I am entitled to ask for a replacement recliner, whilst this part is being delivered ? I do have a bad back and so a recliner is a necessity for me. DFS are aware of this.
Also am I entitled to ask for compensation from them as part of my warranty ?0 -
I went to DFS, and wasn't impressed with either the service, or the general quality of their sofas - and not taken in at all by the 'limited time sale'...
Anyway, not sure if anyone has mentioned this previously (sorry if they have!) but I would higly recommend Nabru sofas - you can by a pre designed sofa, or design your own online, and there is free delivery and returns ( charges £40 for scotland though) - even if the sofa is to your own spec they will take it back.
I got a corner sofa (approx 2.5 x 2 metres), storage trays underneath, an extra chaise, 6 large scatter cushions and some scotchguard for £885 - there is even an option to have two types of seating (soft and standard)
The slight drawback is having to build it yourself, but I think its quite fun! And if you live within the 'catchment' area the delivery men can build it for you.
Hope this helps someone0 -
*highly* recommend, small typo there...0

DFS Cancellation Loophole
If you order from DFS and realise within 7 days you wish to cancel because you have found the same sofa on the internet at a cheaper price, than you need to follow these steps.
On the direct debit paper work they will have on it in small writing you have the right to cancel your direct set up with DFS within 7 days...cannot remember how it was exactly phrased, but its along the same line...
1) Cancel your direct debit with your bank.
2) Notify DFS you wish to cancel and that you've cancelled the direct debit they've set up with your bank, however they will tell you you cannot cancel.
3) You might even get a phone call afew days before the sofa's get's delivered, even though you tell them at that point you have cancelled, No doubt your delivery will still arrive. And when it does, Read the paper work and DO NOT SIGN FOR THE DELIVERY.
It worked for a family member and also a few friends...Happy days...:T0 -
About 20 years ago, I bought a suite from DFS which comprised a 3-seater sofa, a 2-seater sofa and a chair. I also bought a coffee table which is still going strong. I spent around £1,000 – not cheap 20 years ago! When the furniture arrived, there was a tear at the back of one sofa, the frill around the bottom on one didn’t match the rest of the fabric and there were lots of loose threads like a fringe hanging from all three items! Upholsterers were sent in and these faults rectified, so I was happy again – the suite looked fabulous. However, within about 6 weeks, the fabric on the seating started to look shabby, despite having paid an extra £80 at time of purchase for a special spray to be put on to protect the fabric. The material felt and looked bobbly, instead of shinily smooth as it did in the showroom – might have expected this after many years of use, but not after a few weeks. There followed a long exchange of correspondence and DFS absolutely refused to budge, saying the suite was for light domestic use only (don’t recall anyone telling me that at the time of purchase) and that someone was sitting on the sofa wearing jeans! I did say I wasn’t in the habit of asking visitors to remove their jeans before sitting down in my house! A suite is generally bought for your lounge, so will likely be used daily, and jeans were worn by a large proportion of the population even 20 years ago. Like Mr Daz, I swore I would never buy from DFS again – and haven’t, and that I would tell all my friends the story of my experience – and did, I never did get any recompense and can’t help swearing when I see or hear an advert for DFS!!!0

I've said this before elsewhere but worth repeating I think.
A friend bought a suite some years back from the manufacturer. They told him that they basically made 2 types of suites. The ones under their own name - good quality long lasting sofas AND cut price built to a budget and not as good sofas for DFS. They are cheap for a reason. I wouldn't touch them with someone else's bargepole!Don't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0
