Wonder what can be done with an MFI thread though. . .0 -
Well I got advice from Consumer Direct and wrote three letters sent Recorded Delivery, one to the DFS Store in Aberdeen, one to their Head Office and one to the finance provider. That was late on a Friday afternoon. Monday morning I had a phonecall from Head Office saying they got the letter and they'd wait till the service man came out that day to take it from there.
The service man I got came all the way up from Newcastle to the east of Scotland, he immediately apologised for all the hassle I've had, said that the claims that my corner cushion is meant to be flat was rubbish and that he could clearly see there was a problem. He came back three days later with the foam padding he needed, whipped off the base underneath and stuffed the padding under the sunken cushion. It looks tons better and I'm now satisfied.
All I wanted was for them to fix my cushion!! To be lied to by front-line members of staff at the Aberdeen store was incredibly frustrating and insulting. I will be writing another letter to Head Office to complain about their unprofessional handling of my situation.

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could offer me advice. I've just had two sofas delivered from DFS. They are both antique style tan leather with gold metal studs along the bottom. When I received them, I noticed that one sofa has the metal studs, and the other does not. The sofa with the missing studs also has a dark brown dye mark around the size of my hand in the middle of the central back cushion and another mark higher up that's about two inches long. A sofa technician came out today, and as I suspected they are claiming this mark is a natural part of the leather. I understand that parts of the leather may be more porous, but dying is certainly not a natural process!
I have had several friends round who looked at the sofa, and I tell them it is damaged but do not say in what way or which sofa it is. They all spot the mark within a few seconds. It looks like a nasty stain on the sofa. The technician said he could put in the missing studs very quickly but that it is very unlikely anything will be done about the dark mark.
What should I do if they refuse to do anything? Have it inspected by trading standards? That's what I told the man I would do!
Any help much appreciated!0 -

I suggest you start a new thread, in the right section with a title such as..
'DFS Sofa - Item arrived, suspect defected'
or something like that.
Maybe in the 'In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving' section of the forum.

It depends how bad the marks are, scarring and occasional faint marks are natural but any more and very noticable is not acceptable.
You could get a second opionion from another upholsterer and if they came back saying it is a definate fault, then you would have grounds to kick up a stink and get it fixed.£80 in boots vouchers from pigsback.com - Balance: 820pp£15 in paypal from Lightspeed + £30 Halfords Vouchers£36.20 earned from onepoll so far£40 Tesco Vouchers - Valued Opinions:beer:0 -
Thanks everyone. I have re-posted it in a new thread so it will get more views. It definitely isn't a faint mark and as it is the size of my hand it isn't small either. I won't just accept it anyway.
They said they would phone me with a decision last Wednesday and have heard nothing so will certainly be on the phone tomorrow!
Thanks again0 -

That's funny - A friend and I both bought sofa's with our grown-up daughters at two different shops.
When we got our delivery, it didn't feel like that same sofa at all - and we had spent about half an hour sitting on it to make sure that we liked it.
I mentioned this tomy a freind and she said the same thing had happened to her. Her daughter said it was not the same sofa too.
Do sofa manufactueres make special display models for shops and then send out cheaper alternatives?
BTW - The salesman assured me that he could supply the sofa for a certain date. I didn't believe him so I wrote TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE and put the date next to it.
Of course, it didn't arrive, so legally I could get my money back. The company then gave me a discount for not cancelling the order.0 -
I've paid £85 deposit for a sofa from DFS. Never used them before and was unwell and couldn't get down to secure the last day of the sale prices (LOL) I was kind of pleased I did as basically they've now stopped selling the sofa.
I had hoped to get over to them as I was told I needed to fill the paperwork out for the interest free offer, but it's a trek in public transport and I just feel too ill. They also said they were moving the stock round and I may not get to see the furniture I have ordered, also that as I had paid £85 I would HAVE to have something from the shop. I agreed but thought it sounded a bit rubbish, and recalled there's a law that says you have time to inspect upon receipt and if you are not happy then you get a refund.
They rang me wednesday but I missed the call and I am only able to call them back today. I don't know whether to go ahead and just order the 2 seater sofa as planned over the phone and see if they can do the paperwork then (they have sent me a receipt for my £85) then see what turns up 11 weeks time or to try and riggle out of it. The thing is I have been looking for a sofa for a long time as I have downsized and have no room with my old furniture.
I am feeling a bit dubious having seen all the hassle people have had on this thread tho. Not really sure what to do but must ring them today - so any advice would be welcome. Oh I also needed the measurement of the suite but it's discontinued and no longer on the website.0
