    DFS are scumbags.

Never brought from them. Never will. I know plenty of people who have but then again they are also the type to believe the tabloid newspapers aswell.

seems as though the UK lacks a really decent, honourabe sofa retailer...hmmm

Nationwide chains probably but don't forget there are still many single , probably family owned, furniture shops which will give decent service. They may not be as cheap as the DFS of this world but I bet they will give much better after-sales service.

It's the same with other outfits like double glazing companies. Stay away from the national chains and take your custom to a local firm that has probably been established for years, and gets most of its custom from word-of-mouth recommendations.

  • We bought a corner leather sofa from D*S a few months ago, delivered in February. It is a 2 piece unit that hooks together with 2 large metal things. Once put together, it is then shoved into the corner of the room.

It has developed quite a lot of creaking when sitting on the corner seat or the seat on either side of it. It is really starting to bother me now, as it's not as though it has been mistreated in any way. My big question would be: What are my rights or where do I stand now?

Would they send someone round to collect and take away to get it fixed? Will I be sitting on deckchairs for the next few months (vague memory of an old Watchdog programme. Will they offer me a refund or replacement?

We extended on the side of the house so consequently, the sofa was just dropped onto the front drive and left with us. We managed to carry it through the neighbours side entrance - very narrow - and then lifted a fence panel and climbed over with a 3 foot drop onto our side of the garden and into our conservatory and eventually into the back lounge. I really dont fancy having to go through all that again, especially as the suite wont be wrapped up this time, so all the leather could get all scraped.

I've been on their website and can't find anything to do with a guarantee. I think we're paying over 3 yrs as it was interest free. I can't find anything on my paperwork either. Can any of you nice people advise me please.
  • For anyone in east anglia go to Norwich Cane & Leather showroom near the airport. Bought 2 sofas in 1999, absolute bargain. When they finally expired last year traipsed round all the usual suspects DFS, land of Leather etc etc and aside from not finding anything very comfy it all looked severely over priced. Ended up driving to Norwich (now live 80 miles away) got two great recliner sofas free delivery and 100 credit for the old ones they took away. Total cost 1300. Family owned business, they will haggle, original cost was priced as 1850

This has always been my policy. Don't go to the big chains, go to a long established and possibly family run store. You will get much better service and won't have to deal with some faceless call-centre if things go wrong. This applies not only to furniture but also to such things as double-glazing, "white goods" and computers.

Bought a corner unit and lecky recliner from DFS last year, pleased with service, and delivered on time, wow double whammy. (They must be slipping) realy nice sofa, realy happy, realy !!!!!!, Why is that cusion sagging. I know the guy at the shop said it would settle but if I wanted a garden bench I would have gone to homebase. So rang the store, they sent a guy said it was normal, said I wasnt happy, spoke to manager, he sent the guy back put some more foam in everyones happy. realy nice sofa, reasonably happy, realy !!!!!!, Why it that and so on and so forth. Second time its happend realy not impressed and to top it all the arm makes a realy unusual and disturbing cracking noise when you lean on it with your elbow and the recliner mechanism sticks, and the sofa leather is starting to crack and fade.

Corner unit with lecky recliner and foot stool cost almost 2.5 grand over four years intrest free of course. 1 year on, My interest is realy starting to wear thin, like the sofa, and I am definately going to have words with the manager again.

PS spoke to trading standards and as for a refund or an exchange, Well Not In This Life m8.

I'm actually a first time home owner well sofa buyer, and although I may be a little green, I find your comment offensive. If someone decides to pay £2500 for a suite they expect to get £2500 worth of suite. And in hindsight maybe I could of done a bit more homework, but I definately didnt expect to get totaly ripped off by a major retailer.
