Yes indeed it was The Telegraph what done it! And in particular Katie Morley as without her intervention I would probably be starting court proceedings on Monday. As soon as she contacted them they buckled.
It should never have got to that stage of course, as if Hyundai actually cared about their customers as much as they want to be seen to be caring for their customers this could have all been wrapped up weeks ago, but they dug their heels in and refused to accept any responsibility. I'm pretty sure there was no fuel contamination and that the water that was found in there was due to post extraction contamination.
So I'm back to the position i was in the day before i broke down only with much higher blood pressure! I've bought RAC Motor Legal Protection for the year just in case there are any shenanigans in the future.
It's not quite over yet with Hyundai though as the 3 year service plan for £299 that they were offering me when i was buying the car has not yet been offered to me but instead a 3 year service plan costing £660... will it never end?8 -

So in summary, you kept the car and got Hyundai to honour the warranty for the full term. The garage that charged you gave you a refund.
Aren't you worried that Hyundai will blame future failures on this and not honour the warranty?0 -

If it was easy as sending the car back I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I've had enough now. The law says it should be but in reality we all know things are very different.1 -

Just a final comment for anybody that has come to this after the event.
I finally heard back from the motoring ombudsman, the body funded buy the motor industry, who most people I spoke to urged me to go through to settle my dispute... and surprise, surprise they just weren't interested in investigating my case at all.
I've been contacted by Trading Standards who asked me for a few more details but I don't expect anything to happen on that front.
So, really, the point is if you're urged to go down the motoring ombudsman route to settle your dispute... don't bother!1 -
