Well, obviously nobody really thought it'd all be settled in a few days. The repairing dealer has just completely blanked me and I shall be delivering an LBA to them tomorrow and today I have heard back from the dealership where I bought the wretched car from, not accepting my rejection with the following:

    "REDACTED"

And there you have it, why on earth they've opened a case with Trading Standards  is beyond me! I thought it was for the consumer to complain about the retailer, not the other way around.

So... does anybody know a good solicitor?

I haven't followed all of this thread, but when you say the "repairing dealer", do you mean the dealer that sold you the car?
With all the ******, I am not sure who you should be dealing with, the retailer or the manufacturer.

This is the response from the dealer where I bought the car from, the repairing dealer is not referenced at all in this correspondence. That's what has complicated things. When my car broke down I had it returned to my local dealer as the dealer I bought it from is some 90 miles away from where I live. They were the dealership that stated a mis-fuel and even though it has now been proven it wasn't are refusing to communicate with me. The manufacturer is also refusing to respond.
  • Sadly it looks like legal action is your only option at this point.

I agree, legal action is required.  Hopefully you have the legal expenses cover on your insurance.

I'm sure quite a few people following your tale have decided to never buy another Hyundai.  I'm one of them.

A fault on a new car can happen, but the sad tale of events you've been through is truly dire.

there was a news article recently about a Morrisons and contaminated fuel.
I’m not sure I would accept a “not us guv” from them - especially if any testing did reveal contamination

    Indeed it was :

Although it was mid_Feb -- it shows at least they have some "history"

It reads as though the contamination was quite severe though as reports of multiple vehicle breakdowns not far from there,

What reason is the car dealer not accepting responsibility for the repair, since a misfuel seems to have been ruled out?

...seems totally unreasonable on behalf of Hyundai. Keeping fingers crossed that you win and give them a right royal screwing...
