Thank you everyone. I managed till11 but then was bored so I got up. I did have a day off from 'sorting' stuff. All very quiet - both boys did really well but five hours on duty with lots of people they didn't know was a strain. It was cold and wet here so I had part microwaved some jacket potatoes and had the oven on with the potatoes, sausages for us, sausages for the dog (the type that mr redo liked but we don't), and super crispy bacon for the one who doesn't eat. All coming along nicely and then, once again, the power goes off. Only this time it was the house power tripping out. Played with combos until I've established it's the cooker, and with the helpful assistance of the two electricians in the family, agreed that it is the cooker.Said cooker is at least 15 years old, and we had replaced the grill element and bits on the main oven in the last couple of years. It was a bit touch and go last time about beyond economic repair. He said next time it went I would have to replace it so I knew it was on the horizon. It's dual fuel so I still have the gas hob functioning, plus we have air fryer, microwave and the instant pot so it's not urgent or a major issue.
I had a Quick Look last night and I could get a replacement in and fitted by Sunday, but I want to think about it first. If I'm staying here then I'll invest in another range master, but if I'm going then something cheaper will do. Any recommendations or things to avoid? Dual fuel 900 range. Not Sm-g obviously for reasons of CheeryDaff. It would also make sense to wait until any of the pension or life assurance money lands so I'm not taking cash out of the ISA.I'm looking at the appliances and fretting which one will be number 3. It's usually the microwave here because Mrs Brady slept on them. Dear Mrs Brady, I do miss her.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

If it’s the DW next I still have a spare one in my garage…5

And the sum up of things:
Bereavement grant - done and paid
pension 1 - now confirmed correctly, and a small apology payment due as well. I'd rather they got it right first time but still.Pension 2 - took a week to write to me to ask me to upload a piece of paper. Hopefully that will be confirmed shortly.
Both pay in advance and will backdate the payment to the last full payment.
pension 3 - said I hadn't sent death cert on an email with the death cert showing on it. Gritted teeth and resent. Nothing since
pension 4 - the awkward ones who want certified copies of irrelevant things so I have ignored so far. I'm going to write a cover letter and just provide my documents.Life assurance - not a huge amount as it was a safety net to cover childcare if anything happened to one of us, but they have confirmed the claim is valid.Banks - have informed them all but resounding silence since. I think they will require probate based on what I have read.Gov - not done. Must do today.
vehicles - not done. Will email the garage to see if they would like to buy the car back, and do the online car sale thing with photos to get a comparator price.Insurance - still need to check that B are actually still covering the bikes and if not ask for a refund.
business - bank informed but no contact about what I need to do to be added to the account. Need to see what I need to do to voluntarily wind up but need to take the final dividend first.
probate - will probably be needed to get the bulk of the money based on the info I can find. I think it's something daft like £300 to apply as well.
oh and I've had nothing about compensation for the power cuts (which probably triggered the oven failure actually) so I shall chase that too.Tired just reading that, and I've probably missed several things. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Well done for ploughing through all that lot. It makes you realise just how much there is to do.
Annoying about the oven, ours used to often trip the electrics and it was on the cards for replacement but not used it since we got the air fryers so way down on the list now. Are you taking bets on the appliance that will make it a hat trick.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6 -
It is £300 for probate plus £1.50 per copy. Just had to apply for this for my dad’s estate.

I had had enough of paperwork, and the princess is asleep in my office chair.Trying to rest my ankle. 3.3k steps is a lot more sensible.Food has been terrible. The bottom of the fridge looked like a poor value £1.50 reject box. I've salvaged a few bits but I need to be realistic about what I and we will eat going forwards. Shameful waste.
I also need to check the freezer and use or rehome things rather than mindlessly buying on repeat. I did remember to get some indifferent beef out to defrost which I've diced and put into a basic stew in the instant pot.Any thoughts on Beko for the oven? Reasonably priced with fitting etc. more than twice as much for the basic Rangemaster so not tempted.I also contacted someone about quoting on the urgent works. Go me. Need to find someone else for a comparitor but I have the check a trade leaflet to look through. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

No experience of Beko ovens but my MIL had a Fridge of theirs which she absolutely loved - she was gutted to lose it when they moved house!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I did the tell us once thing. No idea why that was so emotional other than I feel like he had been cancelled - passport, driving licence etc.
For future reference for anyone else, you can add five vehicle registrations but you don't have to commit to what is happening. My worry was a transfer to me (adding a 2nd owner on a one owner vehicle)My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
