  • Was gonna cancel my barclaycard just now and £11.23 interest payment was in there! This will not do. So I've paid that will hopefully be abe to cancel tomorrow.

Thank you both so much. I'm still going to keep going with my diary as I am not completely debt free, I still have a personal loan to pay off.

Now the CC debts are gone I can focus on that and of course inner voice will still be there telling me not to buy that thing and put it toward the emergency pot or the loan to reduce the term.

Currently battling with inner voice as to whether I should cancel and chuck the CCs or just massively reduce the credit limit and keep one of them to retain some sort of credit history or something.

I'm under no illusions that my spending could spiral again and I don't want the temptation to be there. I need to build a steady financial base for my children's sake.
I would cancel them if you know your spending could spiral again; take away the temptation
I know right? Inner voice agrees.

  • What an awful rollercoaster for you.  Glad it got sorted in the end.

When we paid our big debt off I actually cut up the cards but left the account open for a few years.  It meant we couldn't dip into it but it gave us a back up if desperate.
  • I'd cut the cards up, freeze them on their apps and then if you need them ever in future you can order a new one.

  • Congratulations on moving and being card free!
I kept one of mine and reduced the credit to £2500 and asked them to never auto increase it. I have had it for 5 years now and link it to Amazon. When I purchase something I immediately transfer the money, so it is always at zero (or in credit), but shows as in use. I don’t know why I keep it really, but it’s a safety blanket!

Thanks all! I have closed the barclaycard and reduced the limit on the mbna and virgin cards to £2k each for now. I've actually lost my virgin card in the move so have frozen that one but may actually freeze the mbna too.

I need to do a new budget so I might work on that this weekend and pop it up on here to get thoughts, I have bill of £208 coming up in December so need to plan for that.
