Radiators aren’t being done now because it’s more complicated than they thought and it will take two days and cost more so I’ve cancelled it. I’m not here tomorrow so it can’t be done 😩

Oh no! What a shame, and how disappointing. I think you are wise to cancel and give yourself thinking time, there will be a way past the difficulties I'm sure.

So the situation with the radiators was this
The first plumber who I will call misery guts turned up and asked which radiators they were changing so I said all of them. He harrumphed and said oh they don’t tell me anything. He then had a look round for the thing to empty the system and couldn’t find it.

The second plumber who I will call nice guy turned up and had a look round and didn’t seem phased at all. I could hear them discussing it on the landing, nice guy was saying they could bleed each radiator separately but misery guts was saying yes but that will take longer. Then nice guy went out to the van and misery guts said did they give you a quote for this  because it’s going to take longer and cost more because the man who came and measured the radiators measured them in imperial and the new ones are metric so are bigger which means I’m going to have to alter the pipe work. That is not what the man who measured them told me. He said he would order slightly bigger radiators because then they wouldn’t  have to extend to pipe work which would look messy. To do it today they would have to come back to finish it tomorrow and I’m not here tomorrow so I told him that was no good for me.

Then nice guy came back and said he had phoned the office and they said to do downstairs first then come back and do upstairs another day and they would make sure I had hot water and heating in the mean time. I wasn’t sure about this and misery guts said oh wouldn’t you rather get it all done in one go. By this point I just wanted him out of my house because he quite clearly didn’t want to be here so I said yes come back another day and do it all at once.

I had an email from the company apologising for the mix up and they have booked to come back on the 19th and 20th when I’m next on holiday. Funnily the plumber coming back to do the job is the nice guy .
Misery guts told me he was subcontracted so was going home for a day off.

I have emailed the company back and told them exactly what he told me about the measurements because it doesn’t make sense and I have asked them for a new quote because he told me it was going to cost me a lot more than the quote they had given me. He then asked if they should take the radiators away so I said yes please, I didn’t want 8 radiators in my house for the next few weeks. They left one behind because he had already brought it up and it’s only small so I said they could leave it. Funnily it looks the same size as the one they are replacing 😏

I woke up this morning feeling a bit achey and by the time they left I was in agony so I just wanted them them gone so I can sit in peace and quiet in the warm by myself

What a nightmare about the radiators.

I know, I felt sorry for the nice guy because he quite clearly wanted to get the job done but I just didn’t want grumpy man in my house anymore and had started to feel quite ill so that’s why I asked them to come back another time

Not sure why this is quoted twice 😀 I was a bit disappointed but more so by the fact that one of them was so miserable when I’ve only had extremely good service from this company with really nice helpful staff . I’ve just got to wait another couple of weeks so it will get done eventually
