I'll be interested in what you do with the enamelling. We need to do our bathroom but want to keep our current bath as it's lovely and solid, and the new sizes don't seem to match ours as we've got a small bathroom and the bath takes up the full length. We want to get it re-enamelled as it's yellow.
We're just going to replace the toilet and sink and re-tile and floor, rather than rip everything out.
I think a lot of people do still like a bath, I'm not particularly one of them, but my DH would rather have a bath than a shower."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
badmemory said:If you are staying then a shower if you are planning on moving out in the next ten years then keep the bath. If you are in an area where a water meter is becoming mandatory then a shower would probably not be as bad as it would be elsewhere. Keeping a bath seems to be a little weird these days. My next door neighbours have got rid of their bath too. They like me have no intentions of moving. They don't have a meter either so it isn't about water use, just about small bathroom & don't use the bath.Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1201

Hmmmm I am very tired today and can't motivate myself to do much. I was kept awake for nearly two hours last night by fireworks. They would let some off and then have a break for half an hour then let a couple more off this went on from 10.30 to gone midnight 😡 why not just let them all off at the same time instead of keeping everyone awake.
So far I've done a load of washing and taken B out and that's it . I'm going out to sort the chicken out in a minute but I really want to go back to bed 🛌Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1201 -
If the bath is a beautiful old roll top with lovely feet I would definitely get it re-enameled and keep it. If not, I would replace you can get whole suites for less than £450. We did our bathroom last summer. The people who lived here had a go at DIY *bless them* and well, the ceiling fell on my head less than a month after we bought it (plastic strip panelling) and the walls were all plastic sheeting too made to look like shiplap. ) Hmmm. Anyway the sink was made for a small toilet room, the toilet was also too small for the space and looked silly. I ended up finding some nice sets of new sink, toilet for around £300 and we kept the bath. The plastic walls we pulled down and I went on FB MP to find bulk lots of tiles that people were getting rid of cheaply. I found 9 boxes of beautiful blue metro-esque tiles which we used all the way around the bath and up into the ceiling (which slopes because that is the cottage-y side of the house). It looks lovely and the entire bathroom cost less than a grand. I also picked up new flooring as an offcut from carpet right for £20! I love my new bathroom, I love baths too as well as showers so it is nice to sit back and admire all the hard work put into making it pretty. I wanted wallpaper on the walls, but with two teens who don't know how to open windows I opted for stencils instead. The finished look is the same as a pretty floral wallpaper.

We got rid of our bath as neither of us used it and got a large walk in shower. It was a boon after DHs open heart surgery as he could have a stool in there. We took the view we will not be moving from here unless we absolutely have to and it was worth the small downside of it being unappealing to some because of the lack of bath. The plumbing is there to put a bath in if someone wanted to. So for you I would think about how long you intend to stay in your current house. If you have no plans to move in the forseeable future then maybe make it work for you by having a larger shower and get rid of the bath if you think mobility issues may be a problem down the line.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
