Mum doesn’t want to go to a care home but my sister is strongly encouraging her to try it, personally I do think she will but will wait and see. My sister had told mum she was going to see a respite place but my mum doesn’t understand what that is so she asked me to look it up for her and I found out they are taking takin her to visit a care home that offers respite, mum thought it was some sort of place she would go to for the day not to stay.

Weird day today. I woke up feeling really good and full of energy so got up early took the dog out and went to do my shopping but on the way back I started to feel really sick, I was so worried I was going to be ill on the bus but I made it home and had to go and lie down, I felt sick and shivery but fell asleep and when I woke up two hours later I was perfectly fine gain 🤷♀️ god knows what that was about, it was so sudden as I was ok when I got on the bus.
I was supposed to make a cottage pie for tea but don’t fancy it so I had a Quorn ham roll with tomato and watercress which was yummy. I’m very anaemic again so I’m taking iron tablets but I need to improve my diet so I looked up some iron rich foods and watercress has more iron than spinach and it also contains vit C which helps you absorb iron. I also bought some cashew nuts because they are a good source of iron too . I wanted some kale but they only had massive bags and I can’t eat it before it goes off 🙁 I’m going to have to have a go at growing my own I think. I also meant to get some apricots but forgot them so will have to get them next time.
The paperwork for the pension doesn’t need to be posted you have to fill it out and scan it and there’s a couple of questions on there I don’t understand so I’m going to have to speak to the pension people, I also have to scan a copy of my passport too, I can’t remember doing that for my original pension but I suppose I must have.
Money wise things are going ok, my budget is holding up and I’m not struggling to pay anything so that’s good. I’m on a retirement group on Facebook and it’s full of people not using their heating and other cost cutting things that are not nice so I’m feeling very grateful that I can afford to put my heating on as and when I pleas. Food prices have gone up noticeably and my shopping today was shocking as it looked like I hadn’t much but when I looked at it I did get ingredients to make 9 main meals lunches and breakfast plus a couple of treats for £40 which is my actual weekly budget. My pet food is a separate budget,I order meat monthly to be delivered as it’s too heavy to carry and I bought a bag of kibble when B arrived on the 13th of December and I’ve hardly used that so it will last for months, he only has a tiny scoop twice a day because his main food is meat.
I have been doing some of my cross stitch this week and I’m so close to finishing it 😄I’ve got three other to do after this one though so that will stop me buying craft stuff. I’m now on book ten of my reading challenge so that’s going well. I bought two books for myself for a valentines treat so I’m reading the first one now and so far it’s really good so I don’t think it will take me long to finish it, then I’ll read the second one which will tie in nicely for me to finish that one in time to open my March blind date with a book.

Have you seen all the cross stitch kits on V1nted? I keep finding more that I like but I'm not really a cross-stitcher. Then I spotted some embroidery ones which reminded me I have a few unfinished… You are doing well to have one nearly done!
Your illness, or whatever it was, sounds very strange, perhaps more of a food-poisoning-type thing? I'm glad it didn't last.
I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I used to eat lots of cashew nuts when my iron levels were really low …liver is really good too, but not everyone’s cup of tea.

Broccoli is a great source of iron.
Maybe your feeling sick episode was due to proximity to someone's cosmetic(s)?
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?2 -
I’ve spent the last 4 days reading all 200 pages of your diary and I have to say what an inspiration you are! All that you’ve gone through over the past few years and your positivity shines through. I’ll certainly be following your story.
I don’t want to make this post about me but you’ve given me hope! I’m on my own at 54 years old having recently ended a DV marriage (there’s a long thread about it on the main DFW board). I’ve been struggling with adapting to living on my own, wth my 2 wonderful dogs, my 4 daughters are adults, 2 working and 2 at uni, so adjustments have been hard, especially with Christmas and New Year added in to the emotional load. I struggle with making meals for myself and have been living on toast and crumpets mainly. So reading your diary has not nly inspired me but given me practical help too, so thank you.I’ve bookmarked your diary and wish you so much good health and lovely walks with B xxxx
Find a little bit of joy in every day.

I love cashew nuts but normally the ones covered in honey 😄I was good though and bought plain. Im vegetarian so cant have liver but when I did eat meat it’s one thing I did actually like if it was cooked properly.

Awww thankyou that’s such a nice thing to say, I never see myself as inspirational 😀 do you have a diary? I found writing my diary kept me accountable even when if I wasn’t posting about money. This is actually my second diary but I don’t know how to post it link to the original one 😀
I find eating the right thing quite hard sometimes and do spend a lot of time living on the same things as you, I have to really make an effort to cook for myself as I really don’t like cooking, I get round it by keeping good quality ready meals in the freezer for those days when I can’t be bothered so I dont end up eating toast but have did that I don’t think it’s a disaster if that’s what you end up doing so long as its not all the time.
