There ya goes our Mardatha - so nip in and have a little visit with our Rosengarten then and leave her a little comment. I think she likes having British visitors over sometimes...and she pops back over occasionally to visit with me..shes got pretty good English..

I couldnt find much when I went googling round some months back for indoor foodgrowing - a noticeable amount on growing herbs indoors - but not food as such. Thats where I found rosengarten and her Indoor Gardener blog - but she was the only positive result I found actually. Maybe some others have turned up on the scene subsequently - do let us know if you find any.

I'll be interested to see that other blog you mention Yategirl.

I grew peppers on my windowsill from a plant picked up at B&Q so I would think peppers would be fine.

Had herbs basil and something else inside too and they were ok.

Interested to know how you get on because I'm always looking for something else to try to grow indoors

THE book you want to get - or at least borrow - is:

"Self-Sufficiency in a flat" by Joy O.I. Spoczynska

Its a 1980 book - but you might be able to get a copy through Amazon. Even if all you can do is borrow a copy from your library - then I suggest doing that.

What that woman doesnt know about indoor foodgrowing aint worth knowing:D

    maybe even better might be:

    The Indoor Vegetable Garden

    and

    Indoor Kitchen Garden

    - also by her.

I know Amazon has copies of all these for sale.....errr....I've just bought these two and one of them was just 1p (plus postage):D

thanks love, that's great !! I do have a decent sized garden, back & front, but its such a struggle to get anything to survive long as the soil is so poor. Houseplants always do well, so after thinking whether to try and enrich the outside or just use the inside, I decided inside was less hard work for us. But I will try stuff like turnip outside and tubs of potatoes.

If you know anyone near you who has horses you should be able to get some cheap/free fertiliser. My friends have to pay someone to take the manure away so they are really glad when someone comes to collect. Nothing better to enrich your soil.

I found it!!!! sorry for the delay.... we have been having work done and we are in a mess

Book is "window-box allotment" by Penelope Bennett - it is written a bit like diary but is an interesting read - rather than indoor gardening.. it is about gardening in window boxes or on a balcony - she states that everyone from a country cottage to a towerblock flat can find a small space to grow fruit and veg.
