Oh and I nearly bought a puppy. A lady I know has a pregnant dog, same breed as my last one, and I nearly threw caution to the wind, and said no to braces, no to EF and yes to cute puppy. I held off though. I thought that was good and deserved a pat on the back

Well done for resisting the impulse to get the puppy, a very sensible decision.  Remind yourself of the lost sleep, little accidents, inability to be out of the house for more than a few hours, to not be able to go away when you want to, the food and vet bills, the challenges of building works with a young animal etc.  I was tempted to get a puppy for the depressed dog and DS1 but the thought of all that hassle again made it an absolute no.

Remind me of this post if I tempted to get more cats!

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I got a puppy in November. Don’t forget the getting up every few hours to take it out, cleaning up puddles and mess, all your belongings being chewed, cats being outraged, not being able to have a lie in for the rest of its life, not being able to leave the house for any length of time without it (and this only gets up to 4 hours when they’re adults), not being able to go away spontaneously, having to pay for care when you want to visit friends for more than 4 hours (no, it’s not OK to take your dog to other people’s houses even if you think it’s perfectly behaved, that may not fit with their idea of perfectly behaved, it may behave differently in their home, and they might not want the dog hair), vet bills, food bills, having to go for walks twice a day even when the weather is vile/hot (we’ve been doing 6.30am and 8pm this week), hair all over your clothes, scratching, farting, burping, clearing up dog poo.

love him to bits, but it’s a huge responsibility and expense. And the ‘cute puppy’ stage is fleeting… I have a bouncing, happy, enthusiastic, hairy, stinky, giant toddler shredding sticks all over the house and garden…

I have a 9 year old "bouncing, happy, enthusiastic, hairy, stinky, giant toddler shredding sticks all over the house and garden…" but if I add very loud barking, an inability to remember simple commands and things that he was taught at 9 weeks old that at 9 years still elude him and he has not yet learnt that if he eats things on walks he will be sick at home!
love him to bits and even caught myself wondering if he would like a "friend" and then decided I was insane and moved on!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Haha thank you for all the reminders of expense, and hard work with a puppy, @redofromstart @LadyWithAPlan @Watty1 @greenbee @skint_spice @beanielou . My beautiful FLD was so easy the last few years he was with us. He wouldn't care if we were out all day, he had his dog flap would take himself out and sleep a lot the last few years. When I rewind back to his early years as a puppy omg, he was a pain (a lovely one but still) and he was scared during all the build works in houses we've done up, and needy then sick and expensive at the vets, he didn't like to be left alone and it was hard work when he was younger...and to be honest a lot of this popped to mind as I spoke to her and I thought, maybe not right now. I will definitely get another one though, the house feels empty without a furry companion. I would like to section off the back garden though where I grow food for us and have a dog friendly area at the front first too. There is plenty of space for all of us. I am still tempted to get more chickens too. I miss my little Hetty and Lavender ❤️

I've had an exhausting few days at work. If I thought Thursday couldn't be topped well Friday proved me wrong.

Today we had plans to sort the base out for the greenhouse 😃 so money was spent on concrete. All budgeted for.

I took DD into town early on, she's been given her first shift and was feeling anxious and nervy about it especially the strict uniform policy. It wasn't strict, I explained a lot of places make you wear similar so we went and picked out a nice skirt and some new tights and a white shirt for her. She's feeling a bit better about it now, the first shift is on Monday!

So she's hopefully more excited than nervous now. She was most miffed that she had to basically wear her school uniform to work after having only just ditched it 🤣.

We also stopped for some cake and a drink whilst out and about which was lovely. 😊
I bought some plants from a lady on fb and when I got there I'd only committed to a couple of annuals and left with around ten flowers/ shrubs which filled my new flower bed nicely 😃. £20 spent and lots of advice from her. I promised to go back for courgette  tomato and cucumber as I'm too lates starting them myself now. I spent a few hours doing that (removing grass and turning over and planting) then I went to help DP, he was getting tired and wasn't sure what he was doing to be honest. And neither did I. But we muddled through it together and left it to set. We will see how much of a mess we've made of it in the morning 🤣. I'm hoping it's okay and we only need to level it off a little bit.
.the house has been neglected so need to do that really this weekend but I'm feeling very tired and weak . My whole body aches so I think I'll try to take it a bit easier on Sunday/ Monday. However we've we have a greenhouse to paint. And erect. And then a bed to fill with compost. 😬 🤣. No rest for the wicked huh.

On finance matters I have spoken to DP. We've decided on to hold off on DS brace for a few months and save save save and see how much we can pay off (inc. EF) straight away. Then I will finance the rest. Skiing is not paid. Ex had an excuse.

Extension news- we've had an issue with planning. The lean to we currently have was not okay'd by planning. So they know nothing of it. Which we kind of felt might happen. So it's delayed things a little. I'm okay with this it gives me breathing space to get finances sorted and the garden to a good point where we can stop and continue to declutter the room being taken down and rebuilt and also the garage where furniture will have to be stored.

The driveway we did last weekend looks fab 😁 it just needs a jet wash now which we don't have. But cleaning all the weeds looks good. Also the hedging I planted last year had looked like it was all dying and thing stalks were left where leaves fell off. I've looked closely this week and seen new buds on all of them so will give them a while longer. I haven't heard anything back from my email I sent them about the half that died so I need to follow that up. I want a refund of some sort!!

Right I've exhausted myself I am off to bed now. 😴

I think Beanie might be right … 😉 But I can understand the urge to keep pushing on, especially whilst we still have dry weather … 🤷‍♀️😊 Can you choose lighter tasks today?

” …. no rest for the wicked ….”
We have a saying in this house - “I do t know what we did, but it must’ve been good!!” 😉😂

I feel for DD and the being back in uniform thing … 😊 I hope she enjoys the job 🤞

Good, rational brightsiding about the planning glitch. It won’t cause issues for your son’s timescale for coming home I’m assuming? Or affect the cost of the quote from the supplier?
