Is it outsourced cleaning?  If so the big challenge is that the contractor has little or no influence over the school or the business manager.  Schools within the same MAT, working to the same contract and support levels often had completely different atmospheres.

Have you thought about joining as bank/casual rather than taking a perm role?  it would give you some ad hoc cash that you could work round your business development plans.

Also explaining why you left the last role.  Less is always more.  'It wasn't right for me so I resigned' may be enough.  given that it was retail you could simply say that retail just wasn't for you any more and it took a week or two to remember this. Whatever you do do not get sucked into being critical of previous managers, working environment, lack of training. A sure way to completely turn off the interviewer in my experience, regardless of the reality.

No it's one to one support. I think I would rather do the cleaning at this point 🤣
And yes will take those points on board for the interview for sure. I never b-tch about ex employers (to new ones ) I save the moans for my friends and on here lol.
I'm going to go to the interview but I have had a thought about something else I could do and my friend would be able to help get me into it ...lots of ideas at the moment though rather than concrete jobs.

  • My friend came over and we had a lovely time. She's still sore from radio but she looked healthier than she has done in a while now she's back on her diet. Made a nice lunch so we avoided expensive cafe prices.

I've ordered a tin of paint for the kitchen! I was umming and ahhing over which colour but I decided green in the end! It's a healing colour and would look nice with the colours already in there (I'e sides and tiles). £22 for a kitchen makeover...I will also get new handles I think and take the one broken door off and put some fabric over it on a net wire (top and bottom). Need to collect the paint which I might do this afternoon then I can get started on the project 😊

No word from payroll yet but the email did say to give them two or three days to respond so I will check which it was before following up.

Making pies for dinner with some mash potatoes. I promised to collect DS from school too so I will do that first before starting on cooking.

We now have seen we have leaks in the car port too 🙃 sort of expected as it's pretty dilapidated and looks like it should. I need to move all the dry stuff that is in there for the tip before it gets soaked and we won't want it in the new car. The bin was emptied earlier....six hours after they did across the road 🤔 I thought I'd missed it but it seems they do one side and then the other hours later. At least it got emptied because it was quite full. Right school run then see if I can get this paint collected.

  • Morning all, well I've been paid 🥳 I don't think the amount is quite right for all the hours I've worked but I will wait for the payslip to come in before arguing that point. I may be due more in the next pay run possibly?
Anyway that's good news and I've assigned all money. £300 is going to the EF today 🥳
DP and I have just spent half hour trying to figure out why we had £1200 on our YNAB showing as ready to assign when it was quite clear we don't have that much over and above what we'd already assigned to the budget. I found the mistake eventually it was a closed account on there still showing money. Anyway all is right on there now.
I've assigned a little to some entertainment and take out categories and I will max out the EF amount I can pay in in any one month as that matures end of this month.
    No CT bill yet.
Hopefully our new Bank cards will arrive too so we can start using that account for daily spends soon.

Didn't collect paint yesterday as 1- couldn't find the shop, 2- it would have just closed as we got there anyway so we gave up looking after five minutes. So going to do that today and also drop the kids lunch to them ..one of them forgot theirs not sure who but I'll have a hungry child later otherwise. Leaving FLD at home if he's as lethargic as yesterday he wasn't quite himself....but if he's okay I will take him on a jaunt with me ❤️😁

Hope FLD perks up for you.
  • Eeesh a little bit peeved to be honest, I had my payslip through and think I have been emergency taxed. And I am missing 20 hours as I thought. The 'email chat' has turned to- go to the store manager if you think you're missing hours they can sort it. Umm no I am asking you to sort it. I am not particularly happy about the way any of this has been handled. It is no wonder when we had our induction they made a big song and dance about 'NO social media posts about us' ...I see why now. they know they are rubbish themselves.

Anyhow in good news I have booked some tickets for next year to see a band I used to like in the 90s. Went to pay in full then thought, nope I will use the pay in 3 app....so only £43 today  looking forward to that!

Right off to drop kids lunch and find paint shop!

  • I find that an email payroll saying 'x hours unpaid at Y, if not received by Z date I will be contacting ACAS and raising an ET1 for non payment of wages is effective.  I am sure you know but don't forget you would also be due 12.07% on top as holiday pay.

Frustrating though.  I often think one of the biggest crimes at work is not paying correctly, followed by not promptly putting it right.

Agreed @redofromstart - I used to work very closely with payroll in a previous job and I was flabbergasted by their "relaxed" attitude to fixing mistakes they'd made.  Not the individual, not the manager, them clicking the wrong button.  Hope you get it sorted soon.

Re: the interview, my mum used to do a similar job and ended up following a few children from primary to secondary school and found that behavior changes from setting to setting.  The management culture affects the way the staff in general behave and therefore affects the way the kids behave.  Not saying that it was like miracles happened but I can remember a handful of kids who came on leaps and bounds once they'd moved to a different setting.  And as others have said, it gives you great opportunities in the interview to ask them about the culture they have in the school, the plans they have in place, the support you would get in the role etc.  Also helps you work out if it is the right fit for you - after all interviews work both ways; you're also interviewing them.

We're also leaning towards green in the kitchen, but not quite as colourful as it sounds like you're going 🤣  DH likes everything to be relaxing and peaceful so we're going for a coastal colour palette in the house - light blues, greens, grey with natural woods and stone and the odd bright accent piece here and there.

And I find it hilarious that you're back on the cross stitch train as I have been cross stitching since we moved.  No idea what prompted me but just found myself buying a kit and now I'm trawling websites trying to find things that appeal to me.

Oh this is very useful thank you redo- I will save this info! I actually wrote all hours down on a bit of paper and took it into the store, found the SM wandering the aisles and handed it to him. His response was...I think the cut off point has been missed I am sorry, it will be 3 weeks now until you get the rest. I told him so long as I get it that is fine (probably good that it is split it means I have money trickling in actually). He then said, have you had second thoughts? Would you like to come back? after the letter I wrote I was flabbergasted to be honest with you  and only managed a, 'no I don't think so' kind of response. We wished one another well and that was it I was out of there!

This is reassuring, another person has also said the same as this regarding the job so I am going to go and see what they say.
The cross stitching.... :hushed: wow weird huh! I just felt compelled to find something mindful to do as I was having trouble relaxing and thought back to my childhood where I would spend hours sewing, embroidering and cross stitching! I was also looking for nice kits to do as well  but will finish this little bee first. I will post a pic if I ever finish it!
