Milann’s mutterings through retirement

I love my Senior bus pass for free travel! I've saved quite a bit in fares with it since I qualified a couple of years ago. I pop into our town regularly as the M&S is there plus I like a mooch around the other shops. We've just had an Dunelm opened and that's my next port of call when I go in. The bus stops are right next to my home so it's as good as a taxi!😀Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Yesterday I was so tired I did very little but did go to aqua aerobics. I felt much better afterwards and could move much more freely. I think I need to get in the swimming pool more often.
Dh couldn’t drop me at singing this morning as usual, he had to be somewhere at 9am and I told him not to worry as I’d get the bus…..then realised there is a bus strike near me. Anyway he dropped me half way there and I walked the rest of the way. I went for my usual cuppa afterwards and a lady dropped me near town…about half way home. I treated myself to dinner out….theres a lovely little cafe on the market and I had a cuppa and freshly made ham salad sandwich for £3.50. I had a little mooch but didn’t want to walk too far or have anything to carry as I expected to have a long walk home. I had to walk through the bus station en route and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a bus that passes near me pulling up. I got on it….its one that takes the scenic route through every estate between town and home but it saved me having to walk. I’d already clocked up 5 miles and wasn’t sure I could manage another couple. I’ve never been so pleased to see a bus….it was a young lady driving and I did feel for her as she got a lot of abuse when she drove past the bus depot from the striking drivers😳😳 I do have sympathy for them but I needed a bus ride home…. I had planned a walking route with somewhere I could stop for a rest though. When I think - I used to walk to town and back plus back and forth to school a couple of times a day when the children were young annnd I was loaded up with shopping. Anyway I’m very pleased I did what I did.Spends today were less than £10 which I’m very happy with considering I’ve had a lovely day with lunch out 😀

You sounded like you had a really nice day! Well done on the steps as well! A shame about the abuse the girl got - as you say one does have sympathy for some strikers although I don't know the background to your local bus drivers' strike (I don't have that much sympathy for London tube drivers I must say!). It must be very intimidating for the young girl - I think she's brave - I hope she doesn't get ostracised too much when they all go back to work! Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

I had a GP appointment this morning at 9am. All the bloods I had taken a couple of weeks ago were ok. He’s given me a prescription to try some meds to sort a niggle I have. The local chemist is closed on a Saturday and it hasn’t stopped raining all day so I’ll wait until Monday as we’re out tomorrow.I had a rubbish nights sleep last night. Dh and the car on charge and there was cheap electricity from 9pm so I put a wash on….i hadn’t intended doing all the washing bu since I was awake I got it all washed and dried. My Fitbit says I had 4 hours but I think some of that was me just chilling and it was actually nearer 2 hours. I ironed everything that needed ironing and have put it all away.
ive made a batch of burgers for the freezer 😁 I’ve been intended doing it all week and it was a case of putting the mince in the freezer or shaping myself. Other than that I e chilled and watched The Railway Children. We did laugh at the landslide and the way the trees slid down the banking. It seemed very dated 😂😂I had leftovers of my new favourite way to have cauliflower for tea…..I did do some hm savoury rice too - just to stretch it out with some chicken. The cauliflower recipe is a can of coconut milk - I used low fat. 3 tablespoons of peanut butter, a teaspoon of turmeric and one of garlic granules the recipe suggests cayenne pepper but that’s too hot for me so I just put 1 teaspoon of korma powder in. A bit of salt and mix it all up…..put cauliflower florets in it get the liquid in all the nooks and crannies and roast on 180 for about 40 minutes…..you need to move it around a few times. It was even nicer tonight than last night.Ds is coming around tomorrow and we’re hoping to go to the city with the Ferry across the water…as in the song from 60s. We used our Tesco vouchers for the tickets and haven’t had chance to get there. We want to go before it gets too cold….so weather permitting tomorrow will be the day 👍January spends - £587.583 -

We had a lovely day in big city with the river and sailed on The Ferry across The Mersey and back……courtesy fo Mr T vouchers 😀 We ate in a lovely Turkish restaurant we often go to. £15 for 2 courses. I had their home make moussaka which was delicious. We shared starters….meatballs in tomato sauce, pan fried liver and a minced lamb dish on a bed of courgette and yoghurt. It’s been a very busy week. I went out to a friends house for lunch with a group of ladies I’m going away with for a couple of nights in January…..not everybody had met so it was a good intro session. The buses were on strike so we walked half way home and called for a drink to break the journey….which would have been about 1 hour 20 minutes according to google maps….we were just about to start on the 2nd leg when Dh rang to see if we needed a lift home…..it was very welcome.
I had an old friend around on Tuesday which was lovely.
Yesterday I met a friend and we had a mooch around a museum and art gallery, walk in a lovely park and lunch out. From there we got the bus to the big city near us and had a little look around before I got on the tram to a different big shopping mall where Dh picked me up and we went to take SIL out for something to eat. She was in good spirits which was nice to see and it’s a rare sight these days. Alzheimer’s is an awful illness. It was very weird yesterday as I had a slightly tickly throat in the morning which seemed to progress to sneezes and coughs throughout the day. I thought I was starting with something so I dosed myself and used olbas oil and hot water inhalation and it’s virtually gone this morning. Very strange. This afternoon we’ll be heading to the building society as our ISAs have come to the end of their yearly term. I’ll take half the interest and add it to my emergency/home repair fund and leave half the interest in there.
I had thought I’d have to cancel aqua aerobics this evening, but since whatever was happening yesterday seems to have vanished I’m still going to go 😁
Tomorrow I’m being taken out for my birthday to see Downton Abbey and for pizza. I’m really looking forward to it. On my actual birthday on Sunday…we’re going out for the day and will find somewhere nice to eat.January spends - £587.582 -

Good to hear SIL was ok when you got there . Also that the throat and sneezing cleared up . Maybe you are allergic to your friend 😂😂.Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.1

😂😂Could be an allergic reaction to my friend Sunshine gal😂😂I’ll take my chances though.
We never actually got as far as building society as the motorway was shut. We did try travelling on the ordinary roads but everyone else had the same idea so we detoured to a park that was local to me when I was a child. It’s very sad to see it so neglected. There used to be beautiful gardens and an old hall. The hall had vandals and a fire in 2017 and although it’s being restored it has a big fence around it and it’s totally lost its charm. But they can’t take the chance of another fire. There have been several big concerts in this park and it would be nice to see some money going back into the park. We had a cuppa in a lovely walled area but there used to be a nice cafe there….just a coffee van now. Anyway we will venture to the building society on Tuesday as we are busy until then.
Today I went to see Downton Abbey with a friend. The story wasn’t quite as I’d imagined in my head but I did enjoy it.I had a message through from the main post office saying we had to pick a letter up. It turns out it’s been an old style stamp without a barcode on so we need to pay a fee to collect it. Ds went yesterday and you couldn’t make it up 🥴 he tried to pay the fee but the card machine was playing up and nobody knew whether the payment had gone through or not….so they wouldn’t release the letter. The sorting office is open silly hours a couple of hours in the morning and a couple late afternoon. We couldn’t get there today so will try again tomorrow……assuming it’s open weekends 🤬 I’m intrigued to know what it is 😜
Not sure what’s happening tomorrow yet…..we might be going to a train show…..all depends how we feel in the morningJanuary spends - £587.584
