Milann’s mutterings through retirement

  • Great that the new hearing aids are already making such a difference milann - and good decision making about the car too. we've discussed a number of times in the past whether to drop to a single car but right now it's not right for us, I suspect it will come at some stage though. Current realistic plan is to stick as we are until such time as my car would need replacing and then take a view on what we do at that stage. Current one is 8 years old now, so I'm hopeful of a good few more years out of her yet!

    Grrrrrr - just lost 2 posts…….
I have been busy mixing Christmas cakes this morning and they are now smelling very Christmassy in the oven. Four 5 inch ones which are baked together in a divided tin and a couple of 8 inch ones for presents…
Later today I’m heading to a NT place for the lights festival. I’m going with some ladies from the singing group so we’ve got a mini bus to take us. I’m looking forward to it but hope it’s not too icy. I’m assuming it’ll be well gritted 🤞 I really don’t like the ice. I’ll wrap up warm 🥶🥶🥶
I’m hoping it’ll put me in the mood for Christmas present shopping as I really don’t have a clue. I don’t have many to buy for…..a couple of token presents……something foodie from M&S. A couple of folk are getting little cakes which are in the oven but the main people I buy for….gks, ds and Dh - I am totally clueless 😱 They’ve all recently had or are having birthdays soon and just buy what they want when they want it 😳I’m quite impressed I’ve got something for Dd 😁
I did get on the NHS app and have requested a prescription which on day 3 is still waiting for approval ……I haven’t been able to get an appointment to actually see a GP…it just keeps saying no appointments available. I’ll leave it until next week and call in the surgery. It was tricky mixing cakes today but I’ve had plenty of experience using my left hand instead of my right one….its not an emergency by any means but it would be nice to get it checked out. I think I’ll have to enrol Dh when it comes to rolling out marzipan and icing though.
Right off to check the cakes

Last night was quite magical at a NT place nearby. There were 6 of us from singing and we headed off in a mini bus….the light trail was beautiful and we had a good laugh along the way with mulled wine and pizza to finish. A couple of friends went on the merry go round and I was the official photographer…..we even had photos with Father Christmas. It was worth every penny 👍 It seemed a little early for Christmas activities but it wasn’t too crowded and worked out cheaper. It was cold but as I suspected was well gritted so there was no ice but it did snow as we were drinking our mulled wine…..a lovely memory 🎅🏼🎄
Credit card has been paid in full . It was slightly bigger than usual but included a few close birthdays so all good.

Definitely get the arm checked out - something clearly isn't right.

Mmmm…..I seem to have lost along post which I’m sure I posted over weekend….Ahhh well……
We now have the car which is lovely but too big for me to drive 😳 I knew this and it is my decision not to drive it and get this car over getting a smaller one. We’ve moved to octopus which have a good deal on overnight charging. It should pay for itself in time. We’re having a charging point fitted in a couple of weeks….in between times are charging at the new Greggs around the corner which Dh loves as it gives him the perfect excuse to have a bacon butty whilst waiting. It’s certainly a lovely car to be ferried around in 😂👍👍
Ive been on a mission to blitz the kitchen cupboards in readiness for Christmas. It’s already taken me 2 days as I keep having to rest…I’m managing 1 handed and just using my right arm as an aid….cant put much weight through it but I’m getting it done 👍 I emptied the void under my bed last week and had a blitz as it was so full it wasn’t closing down properly. I’ve got 3 bin bags of greeting cards….and lots f dds uni work…..which is definitely going this time. I need to get rid of the cards too as they’re beginning to smell musty. I will keep the important ones. I still have my birth greeting cards…..very few of the people who sent them are around anymore.
I’m planning on putting the tree up next week sometime but not until I’ve finished my deep clean 👍

Just nipped to the podiatry department to collect some new insoles. I think they’re the best ones I’ve ever had…..so far they’re very comfortable. I used my bus pass into town and came straight back home rather than getting side tracked into having a coffee. So no spends. I still have money in my cash fun spend pot for this month so I could have.  I think it’s working for me to take cash out for trips and coffees at the beginning of the month….any extra I haven’t spent gets squirrelled away towards a bigger trip…it’s deterring me from just nipping for a coffee when I’m out  on my own. I would have walked to the appointment before I had my bus pass and would have needed a sit down and rest before heading home. So the bus pass has saved me money in more ways than one 😁….no need to spend on coffee whilst resting.
I’m debating yet again whether or not to go to SW tomorrow. My head just hasn’t been in the right place as my friend is still in ICU. I  could get a lift from Dh on his way to work and walk back from SW but it’s a different group to the one I usually go to. I like my 7.30 group in the morning but I’m not dragging Dh out at that time when he’s at work all day and passes the place I go to  at 9 am and a group starts at 9.30…there’s going to be horrendous road works near the junction where I go starting on and off at first but then in the new year will completely close and will be continuing for over 12 months. It’s going to be an absolute nightmare so I won’t be going anyway once they begin. There’s a roundabout over a big section of railway which is going to be totally revamped and upgraded…..so the roads and trains near me will be carnage for a long time. I’m not looking forward to it at all as it’ll impact on a lot of my journeys to most places.
Right I’ve just had a jacket potato for dinner and need to continue with the kitchen cleaning.

Dh dropped me off at SW on his way to work. As expected I had put 1 1/2 lb on…..I’d thought it to be more tbh as I’ve not even thought about watching what I’d eaten and it’s been 2 weeks since I went. I won the raffle again…..an Advent calendar with skinny bars in…..I’ll share with Dh as I’m not particularly keen on them…..I’d rather have a bit of proper chocolate if I’m going to have some. How ungrateful am I 😂😂😂There was a discussion about a tv programme that’d been on earlier this week. It was about UPF and why it’s so hard to stop eating it. I hadn’t watched it but have just watched it on catchup……so interesting and certainly food for thought. It was called Irresistible. I’ve got 5 weeks left on my countdown which I’ve just been wasting - I’m so mad with myself.
£8 spent on my way home in M@rrisons.
I want to continue sorting the kitchen……nearly finished now and then continue the big clean to the living room. Hopefully I’ll be ready to put the decorations up on Sunday or early next week. I put a rug that was looking very dowdy in the washing machine and it’s come up beautifully….it gets a lot of hammering just near the patio doors. Just need it to dry out now.
