Milann’s mutterings through retirement

Another couple of busy days here. Thursday was all about getting the house back together……washing bedding and general tidying. We did nip to a town nearby as a savings account had matured so needed looking at. The best account available was virtually 1% lower than last time but we secured a deal before it was reducing further the following day. We could have done better on line but we wanted to do it in an actual branch.Ds was still off on holiday so he treated us to lunch yesterday. It was very nice too. We went to a place which should have been about a 45 minute drive away but the traffic was horrendous and it took double the amount of time and we only just made it in time for the booking. We overlooked the big river there and it was excellent value- 3 courses for £17 😀 We went into the cathedral which I’d never been in before, had a coffee before heading home where I fell into bed at 8 pm as I was totally shattered.
Nothing planned today except a bit of cooking to use some of the ingredients left over from things I’d bought in for our visitors. I might do a bit of ironing if I can muster up some get up and go……but it might wait for another day.
Ive got a busy week next week meeting up with various old work friends before they go back to school and I might jump on a train and meet a new friend near her caravan to spend a day with her at the Welsh seaside but I’ll wait until midweek to see what the weather is up to and if I’ve recouped some energy before Thursday.I want to pay my cc in full later 👍January spends - £587.584 -
Well my day of not doing much didn’t materialise. For some reason Dh was unusually tetchy so I figured he was tired and needed some chill time by himself so I took myself into town for a mooch around. There have been a lot of behind the scene phone calls with concerns about his sister so I suspect that is playing on his mind too.Anyway I had a lovely afternoon. I walked into town. Town was the busiest I’ve seen for a long time and a lot of the building work they’ve been doing for years has been finished so it looked much better. I picked a form to apply for my bus pass which I can submit on 28th…..a month before my birthday. I had a free coffee courtesy of a loyalty card I’ve been using at a little independent coffee shop. I sauntered over to the big hobby shop as I wanted a gauge for doing some quilling with the monthly craft group. I’ve done quilling many times in the past and always used my eye as a gauge but this lady who irks me a little is insisting on a measuring gauge……anyway they only had one at £10 so by eye it is then 😂 I might get ds to order me one online tomorrow when he comes around if I can find one a reasonable price. I already have a gauge I’ve never used but it doesn’t have the measurements she suggests. The only downside to my afternoon was a little tickle just inside my top then a terrible sting. It was some sort of bee as it left the sting in 🫣I was in Boots at the time but the chemist bit was shut and I couldn’t find any sting relief so I hot footed to Superdrug and found something. It was on offer with a loyalty card so I signed up to save some cash. It didn’t deduct to the right price so the lovely girl who helped me find said stuff phoned through and refunded what I thought was the difference……she refunded everything I’d paid so I’d got it as a freebie. I went to get the bus home and and the card machine was down so I got another freebie on the bus too as he didn’t have change of a tenner 👍
Dh was in better spirits when I got home and had made a pasta sauce for tea using some of the veg that needed using.I still haven’t paid my cc - I might leave it another couple of days as it’s not as close to the end of the month as I’d thought.January spends - £587.585 -
Eek to the bee sting 🙁 I’ve been stung by wasps several times but never a bee. Good news on the freebies though. Glad DH is in a better mood now.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

Dh mood must have been contagious as I’ve had several really down days. As usual though I’ve bounced back……but a good self kick up the backside did the job. We did have silly words over something and nothing and I could have happily given him the cold shoulder forever - but I could see that it wasn’t doing me any good….so I relented (although I was in the right 😂😂) and immediately felt better. I can’t be doing with an atmosphere. The downside was I ate every sort of rubbish going which in turn made me feel worse. I made myself get back to sw and had put 2 of the 3 I’d lost a couple of weeks ago back on. I’m determined not to go back to where I was. I'm nearly back there but I’ve given myself a target to loose in the next month on the run up to my birthday.I’m going into town again later to get a photo taken for my bus pass and to hand the form in. I’m quite excited about getting this blooming bus pass……I feel I’ve been waiting a LONG time for it. The most infuriating thing is if I lived in a different area of the country it’d still be 60 and not 66 when I got it.I’ve met a few different friends over the last week which I’m sure have helped in lifting the mood 😁 Dh is working all week so Ive kept myself busy 😁 as well as meeting friends I’ve been crocheting cacti for my gdd. When I was last there they were hinting wildly how they NEEDED a plant for their bedroom as real plants died on them 😂 This was in a craft shop charging £15 for the privilege of a similar one that I’m making. I know time, effort, shop rent, heating charges etc come into play but I can make one for pennies rather than pounds plus the cost of a little plant container……Dd is houseplant mad which they want to follow but the gks haven’t got the knack of watering them - it’s feast or famine with them 😂
I’m at the hospital on Tuesday as they now have the steroid injection in stock which I couldn’t have last time I was there so I’ll need a couple of quiet days afterwards.
The sun is shining so I’m heading out to make the most of it. It’s been so cold and dull for what seems FOREVER. We didn’t get the mini heatwave promised.January spends - £587.583 -

So true Beanie…..we should have been heading away today and the weather has been better than it has in ages…..and he has been asked to work. Ah well - good job I’m happy amusing myself….I refuse to spend the day cleaning - Milan doth protest 😂😂 I’m at singing tomorrow morning and I’m going for brunch with a lady from there and then if the weather is nice I’m going buy a £5 all day bus ticket and jump on a bus have a ride to RHS garden nearby. I’ll have a mooch around and a cuppa before heading home again. It takes a while on the bus but I’ll watch the world go by as I’m travelling 😁 I won’t bother if it’s raining ☔️
The bus pass has been applied for….apparently it’ll be with me within a couple of weeks. What I’m not sure about is if I can use it straight away or if I’ll need to wait until my birthday. I suppose it’ll depend on whether it has a start date or just a renewal date. I had a walk over to the M&S food shop and bought a salad which coincidentally was reduced to half price -( but I’d have bought it anyway) and sat by the river to eat it. There was a new fence installed with a beautiful tribute to a boat that had been lost during the war. Names and ages of those serving all crafted in wrought iron….most in their 20s or younger 😢…..the river bank beyond the fence was planted up with red roses. It was a lovely place to sit. This was only a few years ago…it might have been for the centenary remembrance. The council have just let the weeds take over and the roses have been gobbled up. Such a waste. Anyway the salad was gorgeous…even if I couldn’t see over the weeds to the river….I was going to eat out but everywhere only had wraps or massive sandwiches which I didn’t want….i am trying to watch what I’m eating….HONEST 😇Some of the expensive moisturising serum I bought in March had run out so I had a look with a view to buying some more. I couldn’t bring myself to spend the amount of money they were asking. There was a £10 voucher offer if you bought a different brand…..so I bought it - it seems to have good reviews and was half the price…..watch this space. I also got a free sample of a night cream. I could feel a difference in my skin once I stopped using the original one but I’d never spent that amount of money on cosmetics before and it just didn’t sit right…I was in shock for days after the purchase 😂😂😂😂😂.i might reconsider if this new one doesn’t cut the mustard….but I’m hopeful. 🤞January spends - £587.584 -
You'll be able to use your bus pass as soon as you get it - it only has an expiry date on it and when it runs out (5 years time) a new one will be sent automatically. I've never used buses as much as I do now!0

Thanks for the info Jodenise……at worse it won’t bleep when scanned and I’ll have to pay until 28th when it’s my actual birthday but I’d come to the same conclusion as you when I inspected Dh pass and it didn’t actually have a start date on…..😁
I went to my singing on Friday morning and a couple of ladies were heading for a coffee so I joined them. When I said I was visiting the RHS one asked if she could come with me. I bought a £5 bus ticket and we jumped on the bus. The traffic was horrible and it took longer than the tram which I usually take…..but it still gave us a couple of hours there. We had a meander around, had a cuppa and shared a pizza ( they have a rather lovely pizza cafe) we made sure we were at the bus stop a good 10 minutes before the last bus from the actual garden was due to leave. There was no sign of the bus so we waited……and waited…….and waited. A lady who was also waiting went in to ask at the reception. By this time it was 1/2 an hour late. Reception said the bus timetable was correct and if it didn’t arrive in another 10 minutes or so we might be better walking to the main road. We did this after about 15 minutes. Virtually a hour from the bus being due and blow me it turned into the drive.🫣😱🤬 He wouldn’t stop to pick us up. There were 5 of us. So we got to the main road and a different bus came in about 10 minutes. Well I toured parts of the big city I’d never seen before. I went past the hospital i was in several years ago and I eventually arrived home 8.30 and we first went to the bus stop at 4.45. It was an adventure and we had a good laugh together ……I was rather glad we’d eaten before leaving the gardens. I did have to go to where I’d parked my car rather than straight home but that only added an extra 10 minutes. It wasn’t a strenuous day as most of it was spent sitting on buses.
Yesterdy we went out with ds and Dh and headed near Robin Hood county which should have been about an hour and a half away. However we got snarled up in traffic for a country fair at a big country estate which added an hour to the journey……we came home a different way👍
We had a lovely walk around a lake in a NT place we haven’t visited for a long time. Then Dh treated us to tea at a big ‘spoons we’ve never been in before. It was the most efficient I’ve ever been to and I’d certainly head there again. Next time we want to go and see the big oak tree and we’ll probably go to spoons again.
Today has been a very chilled day as I’m very tired and - but I did enjoy myself.
Tomorrow we’ve got somebody coming to look at having a cupboard built around the boiler we had but in a couple of years ago and had to have a hole cut into the new false ceiling. We’ve arrange for people to come before but they haven’t shown and just to complicate things they have discontinued the cupboards we had. Will see what he has to say…..it’s a relative of next door and has done lots of work for them which has been ok. So 🤞January spends - £587.587
