In other charming news the swallows are back and have built their nests. I love seeing them nesting in the stables at this time of year with the babies soon to come. The stables were re-roofed so of course the old nests were disturbed and I hoped they would come back even though the nests had gone. And they have. The small joys.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

With heat back I have noticed I can think properly and focus. Up early, everyone is fed including me and the ponies will go out to the field in a couple of hours. I am about to start work.
It is taking a while for the house to warm up, partly because there is only one very tiny radiator downstairs in kitchen, living, dining area. There is underfloor heating but it really eats the gas so hasn't been used and I think the pump may have seized. I'm not worrying about that as there is a wood burner in the living room and, hopefully, the decorator will finish downstairs today. (How many times have I thought that LOL).
The plan is a walk through today to finish any final parts then I can start to put the rooms back together. And continue with the "great declutter" too.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I can understand your joy at the swallows. We have robins nesting in a box OH built 4 years ago, for the first time. Whether this is down to the loss of our beautiful cat a few weeks back we don't know. We had great tits build a nest in another box but have not seen them for a couple of weeks and there were no eggs when I peeked on Sunday, unlike the robins who had 5, and she is currently sitting on them. Maybe the great tits are waiting for warmer weather or have decided to go elsewhere. I don't know too much about their nesting habits. We try and encourage swifts to nest on the side of our house. We have 3 boxes and try and play swift calls from May to July to attract them, but no luck in previous years. They are in the area and we have had several fly-bys from (probably juvenile) birds in previous years, hopefully they will remember our box when it's time for them to find their first home. They should be back in the area in the next 2-3 weeks. We have put bat boxes on the other side of the house, no idea if they are used. We see bats in the summer, but of course they are so fast it's hard to tell if they could have come from our boxes and of course it's illegal to do anything at all to disturb them.Make £2025 in 2025

The decorating inside is done. To be honest I'm a bit shell shocked as work started so quickly and then just rolled on and now it is done. House in chaos but over the next few days I can (a) pay the bill and (b) start to put the house back together. I love the simple white walls and I am astonished how well the front door looks all painted grey. It was a very solid oak door so seemed a shame to have to let it go but it was worn, battered and drafts blew through it. It was a gamble to try to refurbish it and I'm not sure all the drafts are gone but the door has been sealed, sanded and painted and it looks just like an very old door but beautiful again. I can't wait to see it with the refurbished handle and lock (currently using just the half lock and grips on the handle bar).Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Thank you
My lovely cleaner is due today although I'm not quite sure what she will do as I need to start putting the house back together again. She is however resourceful and happy to clean as she finds so if she washes the downstairs floor and hoovers the main bedroom then that would be a start.
This morning i have got as far as decluttering one cupboard in the bathroom so the loo rolls can go in there and off the floor and picked the washing up off the floor and put it in a bag. Work has taken off and is really busy but the chaos in the house is anything but calming at the moment @daisy_1571 The walls however are quite lovely
