Watty's Awakening

Sounds a wonderful evening Watty! - although I think 150 years ago, there would have been alot more peer/societal pressure for folks to attend church, rather than going to hear nice voices/secular music. You had to have your weekly dose of being told how wicked you were from the vicar, and pay your respects to the high and mighty gentry, sat in the boxed pews.......🙄
There are plenty of Christmas songs and poems that don't necessarily have religious connections - and they're usually jolly and upbeat, so good voices singing them, are a joy to hear. When we went to see the garland at Cothele, several years ago, there was a choir and they did a new arrangement of the Mama's & Papa's 'California Dreaming'. Not a Christmas song, not even a carol - but acapella, and sung 'con brio'.... absolutely superb! OK, so the church choir we heard last week were singing religious music, but their polyphonic sound, at times was just other worldly. I'm sure if arranged by a knowledgeable music bod, they could have sung nursery rhymes with equal glorious effect.

The broccoli has been turned into soup as it was really past its best and the soup delicious. We will have for dinner with "something". A neighbour has just delivered a lot of leeks. She must want some gossip, she only ever pops round with garden gifts when she wants something, and leeks keep for ages - but - she got the VNM so introduced herself (wisely as he has a terrible memory for people and names) handed over the leeks and went on her way.
Potted up my lovely cyclamen into a terracotta pot I have had since my first house - only to find a nest of mice living in the planting compost so that has been decanted into two plastic pots with lids after evicting said mice. Which now makes me think there are mice probably in the emergency hay stash so I will have to decant that into the field tomorrow. Oh this rural life

Rode MH this morning, on my own and yes he was naughty but reviewing my goals for the year I need to push on with Most Handsome. We stopped after 20 mins when he had achieved a 20 metre circle in trot in both directions. Yes it really did take 20 mins to persuade him this was a doable thing
I came in and have spent the last hour recovering from the effort
To the office now to do a couple of things, one of which I can pick up and do on the sofa with WattyDog as company whilst the VNM is out.
Then neighbours leeks will be turned into leek and green lentil soup for a quick dinner this evening before panto in neighbouring village. One of those silly village pantos where lines get forgotten, parts get forgotten and everyone has a jolly good time. Meeting a couple of pals there.
Have settled that for me advent is about working my way quietly towards the end of the year, ticking off what I can and working towards my dreams.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Yesterday was one of the best of days. The soup was delicious, the panto every bit as silly as a village panto should be and best of all I took WattyDog for a walk.
I got outside and realised he did not have his boots on his back paws - but - he walked just fine. For that read enthusiastically dragged me round the block. His walking is so much better, looking at him he has a slight "dowagers hump" where the disc is damaged but so what, I'm hoping if I can build up his muscles a little he can walk to the pub with Charming Cob on Boxing Day for our traditional glass of fizz and celebration we survived another year together. His walking is almost normal. He will need boots as he struggles with the garden steps and gravel pathways and the back drive is long and just stones but he can walk without keep falling down and he was so disappointed when we got to the stile and I would not let him clamber over but made him come home. I told him on the way back that slow steady exercise is the way to rebuild muscle. Clearly I am an idiot and charging around like a lunatic and scrambling over obstacles is the way according to him!
WattyDog was too big for the chondroitinase injections someone kindly posted here or PM'd me I can't remember which, but he has just come through this so much better than I ever thought he would.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

£78 spent on oven cleaning. Two ovens now look almost new, I am amazed at how well they came up. This was on my list of things to do as part of the house renovations and my goodness what a difference!
Now I need to see if I can get the shattered glass in the combination oven replaced as it is letting the side down.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
