Watty's Awakening

Sometimes the act of leaving your partner triggers the change in their behaviour. And having the courage to say you have made a mistake and going back - well it isn't always the same as it was before.
We always say that nobody except the people in the relationship know what is really going on, and that quite often one of them does not know either.
Speaking from experience, it can work if both parties are honest and make changesSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £10,020.92 out of £6000 after September
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2234.63/£3000 or 74.49% of my annual spend so far (not going to be much of a Christmas at this rate as no spare after 9 months!

Watty1 said:I'm quietly bailing on advent. I have both trees up, Christmas decs everywhere, fairy lights at the stable and around the house and this afternoon will pick up a wreath when I go to get my hair cut. I've realised my work is busy with customers who want everything off their desk by the 19th at the latest - and so - they are passing the stress to me to finish stuff/do stuff/get stuff by that date. I realise I have felt like this every year for the past 10 years but still tried to look forward to the season and enjoy doing things.
This year I'm removing myself from the stress and am just going to concentrate on work.
In money news my AA membership renewed which I'm cross about as meant to cancel and look for a better deal, but, I'm going to forgive myself that and move on and diary next year to cancel and look again. What's that saying? Lack of planning on your part does not make it an emergency on mine? Any use for pushback for your customers Watty? How long since the AA autorenew? This is some AI slop about the subject if you are still within the 14 days cooling offTo cancel- Contact the AA as soon as possible to cancel. You can usually do this by calling them or using their online chat function.
- Have your membership number ready when you contact them.
- Be prepared for a potential cancellation fee and may be charged for the period of cover you have already used.
- If you are still within the 14-day cooling-off period, you should receive a full refund (minus any pro rata charge for cover and admin fees).

Sadly that is never the answer if you’re self employed Slinky! The answer is always ‘yes’ unless it’s entirely unreasonable - fear keeps you amenable. Does that mean that you are done and dusted by the 20th Watty? If so do what needs to be done, look forward to the money in your bank account and enjoy the lead up to Christmas from 20th onwards by doing only the things you enjoy (like spending time with your lovely dog and horses *plus VNM!*)Your preparations sound lovely and you can enjoy them every evening. You're doing a brilliant job with turning your life around..... enjoy. That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

The good news is, Advent is not a legal obligation. If it creates unwanted pressure, you are fine to opt out. I do like the thought of fairy lights on the stable, though. I picture you as already living in a kind of Christmas card (glitter-glue sparkles across the snowy, grey landscape, MH's head over the stable door with a smudge of mis-placed glitter glue on his nose, that Aga where you make massive Kentish apple pies just visible through the door out of which you have emerged (lumpily swathed in farmer's wife-type waterproofs, wellies and scarf) to feed the chickens which have, I suspect, been hired for the photoshoot. The VNM, for some reason, has donned wellies and is climbing into a tractor off stage right, probably to haul a Yule log and branches of holly.
You could always charge a Christmas premium for work not submitted by about September?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I spent 15 years self employed, with as many as 100 customers a month. Sometimes you just have to learn to say no. It can help educate others that deadlines are deadline. If something is already on the press, it's just too late to make changes.Make £2025 in 2025

I understand what you're saying Slinky - and there are definitely points at which something is too late to change, but saying yes to being able to do the project in the first place is always the case for me (no idea about Watty, of course!). But my client base is so much smaller that saying no would increase the potential loss of earnings by quite a lot.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Nothing to stop you wearing a nice pair of earrings or summat while doing all the work Watters, do try to remember that you deserve a little smile throughout the day even when you're busy (and possibly grumpy 😁)

I would caution against making it an absolute thing, after all that generally creates a void that is filled by frustration, boredom and worry who together make up anxiety. I would caution that except that would make me a big fat hypocrite 🤣🤣🤣6
