It would be so on-brand for Watty to sidle in to her diary and admit that she's acquired a real live donkey
I for one would not be in the slightest bit surprised 😁
So happy to hear you and WattyDog had a wonderful day out 🥂7 -

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Yesterday, rode with neighbour then lazy time then went carpet shopping. This has been on the list for a while and I've finally got myself down to the store and selected a carpet. Would have ordered but did not have the measurements for the landing which I've decided to do as well as the carpet there is very stained. Helpful store person directed me as to which ones to select from so that is done, now I just need to phone in with landing dimensions and get that ordered for delivery and fitting in January.
The only big job will then be the front drive. VNM keeps saying we could tart this up ourselves and whilst he is right I am tempted to get a quote from the chap who rebuild the wall in the field. The quality of his work is excellent. Am thinking this over.

No harm in getting a quote, it doesn't commit you and gives you a basis to work from.7

Mammogram just done. The lorry was in the car park of a massive garden superstore and so I thought I would love looking at the Christmas decorations and have a tea and mince pie in the cafe to start the advent month. What happened was I was overwhelmed by the noise, the lights and the general tacky commercialism of the place.
I bought myself three mini cyclamen in bright red and will pot them into the Railway fire bucket i bought at an antique fair earlier in the year and then stand them by the door as a joy dot in the season.
This experience along with the musings on advent on Greying's thread has really made me reflect on the season. My house is full of festive stuff I have accumulated over the years that the VNM has found in the loft and got out but I just feel overwhelmed and overstimulated by it all.
So, I have tidied the area we use most often and just put my advent candle there and charged my kindle and found the copy of "Luke for everyone" and will aim to read this over advent. For me this season over the last few years has come to be a time for the quiet and I am feeling that keenly this year.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Oh Lawks Watty - I didn't mean to be a source of overwhelm with my musings about tat and commercialism at this time of year.
I guess all of us are guilty of 'going along with things' and ending up somewhere we don't want to be. And I don't think the modern world makes it easy to not get caught up in busyness - whatever that busyness looks like, and it looks different for different households.
Perhaps an 'un-sold' advantage of stilling now, of taking things steadily and seeing the 'wonder in small places' (I do like your "Joy Dot" idea!!), is that when the fun, frivolity, full bellies, sore heads, extra few pounds, and new gifts fervour wears off, we're into January - the middle month of the winter, when things can turn bleak weatherwise, lightwise, and unfortunately sometimes financially-wise. Perhaps if our build up to a celebration of the season is a bit more paced, a bit more selective, a bit more focused on things that matter to us personally (again, it'll differ from person to person), then maybe we will enter the new year in a much more balanced frame of mind. Perhaps avoiding peaks and troughs in energy, emotions and finances, both this month, and next.
Perhaps I'm being a bit too simplistic, and I realise that for some, I will appear to be taking the 'massive' out of Christmas - a celebration that will be a BIG deal to some households. Perhaps it should be a bigger deal than I'm making it. Perhaps I'm wrong. But for this year, I'm trying to be more..... focused on what we do, focused on what we eat (nice things without over-doing anything), and focused on Family Greying. Perhaps in future years I may gravitate back to Mr Holder Esq shrieking at me in October, in the supermercado. But for now I'm going for nature, nurture and not alot of commericalism if I can help it.
