I think the ex cleared stuff and then put junk back so it looked as if some places had not been touched. One cupboard had some wrapping bags with holes in and bits of wood with a roll of bin liners in front. The cupboard looked stuffed but i did giggle when I saw what was really in there.
I'm curious. Are the wrapping bags, wood and bin liners the junk, or was there something more mysterious?
I'm ok with this. As you all know I'm hoping this year to get permission to covert the barn and eventually move in there so going from a three bedroom large house to a small one bedroom will mean streamlining everything I own. The declutter is part of that. I'm at 28/365 in that the en suite is done. I still have masses of "products" but gradually those will be used up and I'm sticking with the no buying unnecessary toiletries to remind me to use up rather than just buy another one of something I like. In spite of donations and use up and alternative uses I still have plenty of shower products and stuff to repurpose for hand wash to last out this year for sure.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Thank you all for your kind words. It is January, Most Handsome is still on box rest so looking after 3 horses and working full time in icy or windy weather has been a struggle and add to that I am adjusting to my new life, and then yes your comments do make sense.
Most Handsome is now refusing any bowl with meds in so I'll try to get out today to buy some peppermint tea bags and see if that will tempt him. (Will need to be this evening though). I have a long on line meeting, I was supposed to go in person and was offered £250 as pay for the day if I could attend. I was tempted but there would be no one here for the horses and if they were just in the field I would have gone but Most Handsome needs checking and amusing throughout the day The other two horses are at a loss as to what to do without him to boss them about and spend their days hanging round the yard, I presume to take "instructions from management". I would have thought they might have enjoyed the peace of him bossing them but no, they hang around and look forlorn without him telling them what is what on a continual basis.
I particularly liked the idea that the brain seeks what is familiar even if the familiar was crap. That makes sense. It would explain a lot (plus the ex has been in touch to ask me some questions, I just sent him the details of someone he could pay and ignored the rest).Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I love that @Slinky I'm going to make a real effort to focus on gratitude moving forwards. Thank you for reminding me of something I had been meaning to start (a gratitude practice).Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I’ve been having the exact same conversation about brain wiring with one of my reports today. He beats himself up with negative self talk. When I told him that he was creating pre-programmed thought patterns that would kick in automatically when under pressure he was really shocked … 😉 I talked about gratitude practice too and then suggested we do a business spin on it and asked him to record three things that he has done well at the end of each day 😊 He went away with a spring in his step 😊
Oh and don’t be hard on yourself - all your horsey clan are discombobulated by Most Handsome’s being indisposed and you have a lot of work to look after him. On a long, noisy night you are bound to have a wobble. I’m intrigued btw, why peppermint teabags? Do all horses like that or just MH?

I am also looking at my large pile of toiletries - eye shadows, creams etc - which also grew over Xmas and have declared a no buy til I have nothing left of a product... from 3 x day creams to various night oils/creams ...
I have over £40 of boots points but nothing I need.. There is that fabulous Mega mushroom tonic by Origins which I could treat myself for free with points but I have a home to buy.. I am waiting on needing something cos I have ran out .. I did buy 3 lots of floss but us limiting our 2024 spend helps us move forward in our goals.
On the flat I have just seen it is smaller than where I live (2 bed) but it has loads of storage but I still am on the declutter route... I dont want loads of old stuff following me around that I dont use. Your barn idea sounds so the next step in your plan.
I think when the wind is crazy it becomes very Chocolat ... I get all needing to change thingsDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

@KajiKita what a brilliant business suggestion with the business spin on a gratitude practice.
I started my gratitude list this morning and at the end of my working day I am going to write down 3 things that I have done well today. I think these two practices will really help with programming the brain and hopefully help me with work too.
I feel quite inspired (you lot really are the most fabulous coaching and support crew a single girl could ask for)
