That’s early in the year for laminitis, isn’t it? Hope he improves soon. What a palaver buying the paracetamol though!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Digging back 50 years to my pony riding days, is laminitis down to eating too much new grass, or is that colic?

@daisy_1571 Most Handsome appreciates the cuddles.
@Slinky too much frozen grass was probably the cause and @themadvix the vet said they were seeing a lot of it as it was mild during all the rain and then suddenly froze and horses like mine were still on their early morning turn out and ate the frozen grass that was high sugar (even though it was very short).
I've asked a few friends to help me stock up on the Paracetamol. A colleague who was here first thing said her husbands work colleagues go to Asda for lunch and they have all agreed to buy the max 2 packs each so by next week I should be good for the duration. I do love a bit of team work.
- 6.8 this morning. Everything very frozen and I've had to use goodness knows how many kettles to get water that the horses will drink and to defrost feeds. The other two ate theirs up but Most Handsome refused his once it got cold then it froze and now he will not go near it even though I've mixed him up a new one with warm water and carrots. I can see he is not going to be a good patient and this is only day one.
Baby Fell has gone to the field leaving Charming Cob to keep Most Handsome company. Baby Fell feels left out and has set about trying to destroy fencing to come back and see where the other two are. Most Handsome fed up already with being confined to barracks and the Charming Cob just politely enquired if he could maybe have a little more hay. He is so easy compared to the other two.
10.45 and I am about to have my first cup of tea.
I admit my no purchase year has failed. I've been on Amaz0n and ordered two flasks. I do own one but the VNM has been using it at work each day. With the flasks I can keep some hot water at the yard and wont keep boiling the kettle and walking backwards and forwards. I do have a kettle on the yard but the water in it froze overnight and there is no running water on the yard. I've bought it into the house and that should make generating hot water easier. (I wont think about the bill). Hot water should keep the buckets from freezing hard so quickly.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Interesting about the sugar content in the grass! Brilliant team work on the paracetamol - I hate to think what the standard dose is for a horse.
I think the flasks are a very wise investment given the difficulties - and it's not as if the one you have isn't being used already.

Watty have you got any bubble wrap you can wrap round the buckets? We had a downstairs toilet in a single brick leanto at home, the water in the pan would freeze overnight in the winter. We cobbled together a heating system of a bubble wrapped bucket of boiling water standing next to the pan, that would keep the loo just warm enough to stop the pan and overhead cistern freezing.Don't worry too much about the cost of boiling the kettle, it costs about 3p.Make £2025 in 2025

:@Slinky what a great idea about the bubble wrap. I raided the office packing box and found sufficient bubble wrap to use and what a help. Much less ice here. I also own a rug dryer for horse rugs (Sort of a really big electric clothes rack) and I switched that on in the feed room last night so everything did not freeze solid. Not battling frozen ice has made a big difference.
The VNM bought in a Chinese take-away and one of those tiny bottles of wine last night, the ones that are just a large glass. A really kind gesture and much appreciated as all I had to do was sit down and eat. He left for work at 5.30 this morning but before doing so popped up and gave the horses breakfast and some hay so that I could get up a little latter. I so appreciated that, he really is very nice to me and the horses.

The kindness of strangers both on here and in real life is so moving sometimes. Yesterday my colleague said she would ask her husband to ask his work mates to pick up Paracetamol with their sandwiches. Apparently each workman went to Aldi bought their usual lunch plus the allowed two boxes of Paracetamol. She sent me a picture of their haul. I have enough for just about two weeks. They have been gifted by each of them, they are worried about Most Handsome and in return would like an update and a photograph on Monday.
I admit I cried at that really kind gesture, such a small thing for each of them but overwhelming to me.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Sounds like the VVNM is certainly a keeper, and how lovely of your colleague's husband's workmates. Aldi must be wondering what the heck is happening in that workplace that they all need so much paracetemol........I just missed out on a very good breadmaker in what looked like near mint condition despite being a very old model (prior to the one I used to own many years ago), so will have to keep my eyes open and respond quicker next time.
