This could explain why I've failed to make huge volumes of sales…

For those who, like me, have older Kindles that won't be updated from next month, I came across this article (which clearly refers to functions I either haven't got or don't use). Basically it's saying treat it as a book, don't drain the battery too often and try not to drop it.

What do you think? Is anyone actively loking to replace their Kindle with a newer one, or are we all going to try using the app and hope that covers what we need?

I think I have said before that I have 2 kindles. The old one (from 2012) started skipping forward 20 pages whilst I was reading so I thought at 9 it must be on its last legs. Neither of them has ever done an update to my knowledge. What I do know is that you can't open a new to you book without the internet or go back from the end of a book to the beginning on the new. So if going into hospital etc for a while make sure you have opened a couple of books before you go. So whilst you wait for that ambulance buy & open a few new easy to read books, your future you will thank you.

I haven't had an actual kindle for years, mine is the app on a fire table or my phone.

We had a lovely afternoon with the family.

When we arrived, it was warm and sunny so we sat out in the garden but big grey clouds kept blowing over with a spot of rain so we ended up indoors. The children were all relaxed, which doesn't easily happen away from home, and the eldest kept up a constant play of selling food to everyone. Prices varied from £3 for an ice cream to me to £500 charged to Uncle D!

In fact, we all ate very well in real life: we had a choice of chilli con carne or Qu0rn chilli, with salad and h/m garlic bread, and all the pudding disappeared. The last bits of cakes and flapjacks went to people's homes.

The birthday cake was processed in while we sang happy birthday and the birthday people blew out candles - family tradition. Finally they opened their gifts and we did a group photo which is an emerging tradition.

We had to go eventually, as the children needed to get to bed and I still had to do my church cleaning, but that was easy and didn't take long.

Thanks to A and H's washing machine, we now have laundry on the line overnight. I hope the forecast for dry weather is accurate.

DH has bought some groceries and the part for the washing machine and I've spent 99p on another Kindle book. (I had a look on the app and it doesn't seem I have access to my games on there, just the books).

I didn't sleep too well: work up just slightly cold and took a while to decide to do something about it, but was then okay.

I was in the teas and coffees rota at church this morning and DH kindly offered to help as nearly everyone was away. We managed okay between four of us.

One of the kids' team has handed me her notes from a session she wrote a few months ago, so I can type it up for future use. She's very talented so I'm keen to incorporate it. There are a few other sessions I'd like to develop because you only find out the weak points or potential when you've inflicted them on the children tried them out in real life. They do tend to slide into the slipstream pretty quickly, though, so perhaps I need a plan.

Dinner was salmon, boiled potatoes and some of the veg I bought on discount the other day: leek, tender stem broccoli and more of the Easter carrots. Easter egg and flapjacks for afters.

I had a nap this afternoon, so I'm now recovered from the lack of sleep last night. DH had a meeting, and I used the time to turn a rather old punnet fo strawberries into jam, which has already been started.

No spending today, though there was another 99p spend on a Kindle book last night. I've had a notification to collect the coat I bought on V1nted, so that's a job for tomorrow.

Talking of future jobs, the only work I have next week is the Thursday afternoon class, and that's looking perilous: only two people came last week so funding may not last.

Useful things I ought to cross off the list in the coming week:

    • wish DS1 a happy birthday
    • gardening
    • write up another children's session or two
    • print out more resources for Thursday
    • iron all yesterday's laundry pile
    • mend some clothes

There's nothing else coming to mind specifically for the coming week though things like opening a new ISA could feature.
