I’m impressed with your fortitude in finishing the book if you didn’t like it. Takes real commitment along with mental and emotional strength that. Respect to you 😂.

Oh thanks! That's very kind of you. I must admit I wanted to find out what happened, although I kept breaking off so I wasn't too immersed in the negativity. I much preferred her 'Provincial Lady' books, especially the one set in the Phoney War.

Lucky you! We only had a brief few hours in Dublin so perhaps one day I will go back and look out for the statue.
I will raise you a very English quotation of similar ilk: '…the sunshine is a glorious birth. But yet I know, where're I go, that there hath passed away a glory from the earth'.

We had a nice afternoon, taking the hobby car out for a run as far as the garden centre for free hot drinks with my membership. DH's turned into coke and a scone, so we did have to pay something, but I also had a voucher for a free plant within a certain range and chose a white Thrift. Very MSE. 😊
I've also picked up a free plant pot and coffee grounds - but forgot to take the little collection of plant pots to recycle.
We sat out in the sun for our drinks and I noticed a patch of untended land behind the garden centre. Looking on the map on my phone, I found a pathway leading through it so we investigated afterwards and found a small field that had gone wild (I gathered teasel heads), then a small woodland leading through to the new estate. Just a short walk but somewhere new to explore further some time.
DH had to get back to make a phone call and I used the time to make little cakes (a batch each of lemon curd and chocolate), some of which went to DH's church group this evening. Mine wasn't meeting so I caught up on one or two jobs.
Dinner was salmon with pasta, sauce and veg.
My only spending was to put petrol on my credit card as I get some Clubcard points that way. DH bought the refreshments and a painting (as one does). This one was £5 from a charity shop.
I really must go to bed now that I've printed out some activities to use in class tomorrow.

Yesterday was my turn to spend £5 in a charity shop: this time it was for a book. It was a gorgeous day with a picturesque bus ride to work and a walk at the other end which was every bit as pretty. The class went well, though we are still down on numbers. It turns out the teacher and I must both have done English Lit A Level, so he had a look at my book (Medieval poetry) which DH is now perusing. It takes a bit of concentration but reading it phonetically and checking with the footnotes, the language is still more-or-less accessible and we both like the thought of hearing how those voices might have sounded hundreds of years ago.
I was home in time to make the chickpea tikka (at least two meals' worth left for other days) and a few leftover chickpeas went in the freezer.
Today, and for the second day on the go, DH had had enough energy to cycle to work as he usually does. He even made tea tonight (tuna pasta) as I was worn out. I did most of the ironing this morning and a load of laundry, then was going to go to the doctor's to sort out my prescription when I had a phone call and discovered I'd forgotten a meeting. Good job I was almost ready to go out, so I went there instead of the surgery.
The meeting was with my line manager at church and while I was there, I was given some packets of nuts and nut chocolate as they were being cleared from the kitchen (allergens). I'm happy with that as I love nuts and am lucky enough to be able to eat them. I did my share of the cleaning while I was down there, then called at Asd4 and Icel4nd on the way back. £3.99 spent at each for discounted vegetables.
So I've yet to sort out the prescription. On the other hand, I've emailed B00ts to tell them their blister pack recycling is too complicated. I got an answer back in short order, explaining how the Advantage card works, but I'd not even mentioned that. The thing I mentioned, they had entirely not addressed. This could be a saga, but I've not yet had a reply to my reply…
Just over £5 spent on V1nted, buying slippers for DH. His current pair are on their uppers and he hates clothes shopping.

I just offload the blister packs at B00ts and bypass their complicated recycling app. I’m just happy to recycle not so bothered about the points.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping) -.literally have been run over by a bike, mobility scooter and a car - still here 💪4 -

They've replied again and sent me some contact details for the Scan 2 Recycle scheme, which their email seems to suggest are confidential, otherwise I'd pass it on. I'll have a go at emailing them and see if I can get anywhere.

Yes and Soop—d-ug take blister packs too, very straightforwardly!

not round here, they don't, nor several hundred miles away near my parents'…!
we spent literally six years trying to get our local Superdrug to take any blister packs whatsoever, but every single time they claimed they use no space and couldn't take even a couple of packs; the same when we visited my parents. Just absolute refusal every single time, literally over years. We ended up with a large carrier bag filled with them…
then Boots started their scheme and we have been able to take a small bag of a dozen or so packs, repeatedly, and now we have no backlog! No idea why Superdrug are so obstructive- we tried emailing head office who just told us to take blister packs to our local store (!), and we tried asking whether we could bring them on the day/time when they are collected, and we were just glumly thinking they would all have to go into landfill…

Oh such a shame - well we have two branches in the same city here, one takes them, the other doesn’t.They explained that only branches with a Pharmacy will take them.
