Cherryfudge said:There's a particular book I was looking for and searched every charity shop I could find but as yet, no luck. However, in the supermarket later I glanced over the bookshelf that raises money for charity, just in case. The one I was after wasn't there, but I saw Madhur Jaffrey's 'Indian Cooking' and thankfully DH was with me and had a £1 coin in his pocket, so I (the cashless one) could buy it.
As I explained to DH, I had a copy years ago which I donated as he didn't like curry back in the day. Now he's quite the curry fan and I'm comparatively timorous. Anyway, he had a look through and I think we might be trying out some of the recipes.
It's in good condition, too, for a paperback from 1982!).
I bought another padded winter jacket yesterday, it was a beautiful fuschia colour with warm trims and I just couldn't resist. The label said "Isle" and feels like good quality but it is not the same Isle that is sold by Edinburgh Woollen Mill. Anyway it is spinning at 1400rpm atm as its a great day for drying!

Should you tire of it, do let me know?!
As for tiring of it @DigForVictory odds are I won't get chance. Himself is very clumsy so I've told him he's not to wash or touch it actually... "You break my mug I break your face." However should it survive long enough for me to tire of it (ha ha haa!) you'll have first refusalI'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.8 -
Northallerton today, BHF, pair of Pavers b/n white, cross between a trainer & a boat shoe £5.99. Yesterday at Bedale c/b got a checked midi pleated skirt in pure wool by a Scottish company ‘Laird - Portch’ (?) for £2, a top by Cotswold Co for £1 and some Max Factor face make up for £2. Then Thirsk c/b in the afternoon where I picked up 2 pictures for £1 each with just the right sized frames and mounts that I need for a couple of watercolour pictures. The frames were painted a solid dark green colour but were badly bashed about so I set about them with sandpaper and distressed them further! Quite pleased with the finished look! 😊

florianatwobob said:That’s the one @Cherryfudge! It was a staple of my childhood. Mum started us on curry at an early age! Thank you for finding it.Mum often did it with either fruity ( dried sultanas normally) or caraway seed rice.
Turkey was already cooked obviously, so just boil up the broccoli and put that all in a casserole dish. Then mix up a tin of condensed cream of mushroom soup with a large spoon full of "Miracle Whip" (a type of almost mayonnaise) and a teaspoon of curry spice. Pour that over the turkey and broccoli and heat through.
Mum still had the same jar of curry spice in her kitchen cupboard up to about five years back when we gave it a good clear out. So probably rushing through this one jar of spice over the space of 50 to 60 years.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. @Brie hurrah for curry! It’s just reminded me that when I came back home from my travels mum’s curry was always what I fancied.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Re curry……I was traumatised at a young age by Vesta Prawn Curry….never got over it! 🤢8

Oh, all these memories of the Vesta curry from the box, it really takes me back. I used to love those little strips of dried noodle that crisped up in oil although looking back I'm not sure they weren't made of something like acrylic. They can't really have been but my memory recalls them looking awfully like.
@Miró - lovely clothes and great spot on the frames, make up and shoes too.
I passed the bhf shop today but decided that I wasn't going in as things are getting a bit crowded here so I am planning a sort out and donate week to make some space. There are several bits I no longer wear/use taking up space that could find good homes elsewhere I'm sure. Once I've done that I'll be able to pop in to all the local chazzas feeling virtuous which definitely appeals.8 -
@Miró - I like the !!!!!!-bow blouse from the Cotswold Co, its the kind of thing I would wear with tailored navy trousers for work.

I just looked at the hospice shop on Leigh Road, but didn't find anything. I did see a dress that I must have donated hanging up for £12.
I am going to Benfleet this week so I might see if there are any chazzers there. I've only gone through there in a taxi so I've never seen if there are shops there.2025 GOALS

I'm sure it longer to make a Vesta curry, with all the little sachets with different timings than to make a proper one.7
