@MrsStepford, that sounds like a lovely thing to do. I helped in a class with people from different backgrounds and the teacher, who was fascinating to work with, asked about people's favourite ice creams which I thought was a good ice breaker (pun unintentional) but was also a way she could get people to talk about ice cream where they came from. Like chocolate, I suppose it must vary from country to country. She actually took that conversation on to teach an aspect of English spelling, but food is such a good way of bridging differences. It made someone feel included and showed respect for their culture.

That is indeed MSE @ch@Cherryfudge , work that iPhone until it dies! Apple's business model relies on engineered obsolescence but it is possible to like the brand but deny the profiteering.

I know, but alas it's starting to show its age. ~Mine still updates but my husband's, which is an iPhone 6, wouldn't accept an app for our boarding passes recently, so I know mine may start to refuse soon. DH is doing the research on what's next for us. I back up all my photos to the cloud but space is an issue on my phone too.

The built-in obsolescence is the worst things (IMO) about iPhones.

@Cherryfudge. Did you know about the new c/b starting up in Northallerton in late June?  On the County Hall site so hard standing rather than soggy fields😁

Also, meant to ask if you have been to the new Yorkshire Cancer chazza in N'allerton?  Only discovered it yesterday but it is closed on Sundays!

Sorry @Miró, you don't qualify as a dinosaur yet... perhaps slightly headed towards endangered status, but not at all fossilised. Seriously, though, that built-in obsolescence works on lots of levels and is essentially designed to make people buy new products just to keep up, when the old ones were absolutely great and still functioning.

I didn't know about the new c/b, thanks - I will look out for that! County Hall, eh? I often stand in the grounds there admiring the goldfish and the water lilies in  in the ornamental ponds (though I've not seen frogspawn there this year). I wonder if it will be on the car park at the back? There used to be a bank holiday car boot at the Allertonshire (near the bridge) but it dwindled to nothing and now Northallerton is a car boot desert (though it makes up for it in chazzers).

And yes, I like the new site for the Yorkshire Cancer Research! They can have a lot more stock out, though I understand they are keeping the old site as storage for now.

I’ve only just upgraded my iPhone 8 to an iPhone 12. My sister has inherited the 8 as her iPhone 6 was slowing down but still functioning. The 6 had previously been mine too! My 12 is a refurbed one as I object to giving apple more money and my sister is planning on upgrading to a refurb 12 too.

We were looking at iPhone 11 as our local shop recommended that for DH, but I think I need to do my own searching as I prioritise the camera and memory, so I maybe need to be brave and spend more. I'd be looking at a refurbed one, too.

The other disadvantage of iPhones is that once you've had one, you may not want anything else! So don't do it, Brie, don't do it. Stick with your android.

I have sold my soul to Apple but don’t agree with their practices to force upgrades and the cost of their new phones. So instead I sold my soul to the big river company and their refurb programme (1 year warranty too). Think it cost about £200 for an excellent one. I’m very happy with it.
