Happy New year old friends and new - welcome @cuddlymarm

So end of the old, start of the new. I never make new year resolutions , I need to see where Im going and make small changes as I go.

Yesterday we went to the inlaws for dinner and for the first time ever , she served roast potatoes, M&S beef dripping ones and I filled my boots :) She got them especially for me as I dont like mash or boiled so it would have been rude not to :) She also sent us home with a slab  of Christmas cake and I taught Mr L the delight of cake and stilton whilst we were seeing the new year in :)

I think that was the piggiest Ive been over the past week and I really really enjoyed it - heart burn this morning though so wont be happening again

Absolutely no idea on what we are eating today. Im working , theres nothing fresh in so I shall have to root around the freezers. Still got load of veg here so we wont starve. I fancy something light and salady, an omelette or the likes but mum and he will want something more substantial , theres probably sausages somewhere . Just looked, theres enough sweet and sour chicken and fried rice which will do mum and there remains of that lamb sag that will do us - happy days - no cooking tonight :)

@joedenise welcome to the joys of air frying. Ive had my two for nearly two years now and wouldn't be with out either. And I like chips so if I fancy chips I make myself chips. I dont use fry lite, it ruins the non stick coating, I use normal olive oil in a fine mister spray bottle that I got of Amazon. I give the bottle a good shake and I spray from a height. well actually I put the cut chips/roasties in a big bowl in the sink and spray there so any fine spray goes in the sink and not over the kitchen,  then give a good shake about to make sure every one is covered. Even two or three sprays would only be about a teaspoon of oil if that. The only other things I use oil on is breaded foods, it needs a wee spray to crisp
  • Thanks Beanielou, I would like to join the thread, I don't know how committed I will be having started and rejoined SW many times in the last 3 years. I am currently not at a group, I would like to lose 2-3 stone befroe I go back, to say I can do it on my own sounds crazy right! Also if I have done it on my own I can do it again when I decide that I no longer want to go to group.

My starting weight is 23 stone 12lbs at SW however at home I did reach 24 stone 4 lbs, therefore last year weight loss with the help of wegovy is 11 lbs as I now weigh 23 st 7 lbs (1 Lb gain over christmas (probably helped by wegovy)) I stopped taking wegovy 3 days ago, so when that leaves my body I will be going it completely alone and this group will be a huge support.

I do have a call with tier 3 weight management on the NHS in April, which may lead to a new weight loss management aid. If I could lose first another 9 lbs then another 14lbs to get me started I would be very happy with this. Then I may start group again and get all the support from there that I can get. Undecided, I may just do it alone.

I am going to the gym as new thing started in 2023, which I plan keeping up in 2024. Going to the gym has helped on many levels firstly if I don't go, my mobility gets worse again, I get back ache. And if I do go, my back stays out of pain, I can walk further and the proof was in the pudding, I went to a christmas market, had I gone 6 months before I would not have made it round like I did I would be out of breath, bad back and generally full of aches and pains, so I am very thankful for going to the gym, it has resolved a lot of issues for me. Thank you me for going!!

I would like to get one successfull week under my belt starting with today I do not have anything in that is a problem sweet wise, however if I pop to my mums there could be many problems as she also has a sweet tooth and so does my step dad and they have lots in that could tempt me. However if I am to succeed I need to be able to go there with the right mindset, and probably full from breakfast / lunch.

Todays meal plan which is the same for most days I will write a new plan if it changes:-

Breakfast:- Chocolate weetabix X2 7 syns plus Hea milk
Snack:- 3Xchicken drumsticks skin on (6 syns) (I tried to take the skin off but it was impossible, so next time I buy chicken for a snack I am going to get thighs as I know I can get the skin off, I also add harrissa powder, I bulk cook them and freeze them in snack bags.
Lunch:- HeB Bread (I am going to use up the last of the lighter butter so that would be 4-5 syns, not buying anymore after), eggs frylight fried (or a smear of oil 1 syn) and smoked salmon free.
Snack:- Apple (speed) and Yoghurt (4 syns) I am chaging this to a half syn yoghurt in my next shop, unless I lose weight and then I will keep it the same.
Dinner:- Normally under 10 syns I have a microwave or oven meal from Cook, as I get fed up of my own cooking, batch cooking I get sick of it, this way there is no waste and I have a lot of variety, there is one meal which is higher in syns which is mac and cheese but I'll only get one per month as a treat. Usually they are less then 10 syns for the meal, I am afraid becasue I am not part of the group I cannot work out how many syns exactly.

7+6+5+4+10 = 32 which is more syns then I am allowed (25), however I am still lilely to lose weight as it is a vast improvement to what I can get through, and after the changes in my next shop I will be more SW friendly.

    Welcome hotdog

One step at a time, 1 lb at a time, if you need anything just ask, we aim to please 😂

How i get chicken off drumsticks is from the fat end, i poke my finger under the skin just so i can get the scissors under, then make a cut, pull it down to the knuckle end then cut round, once you get the knack it's quicker.

Good luck on your journey and well done for doing the gym, something i could never do 🤣 i am too lazy and don't have time basically

    Happy New Year

    Welcome @cuddlymarm and @HotDog2020

Well done to all the small gains.

    Today's plan:

    B Overnight oats (HEB)
L leftover pork, cherry toms and orange and banana (eaten as a packed lunch as we take DS back to the station today - nearest station 40 mins away!)
    D SW chill and rice
    Milk in drinks (HEA)
Aiming for no syns today if possible

Do you have the currant books? either 2023 or 2024?  Im sure those of us who have membership will help with the syns values if you are stuck

Now your chicken is cooked. - remove the skin - dont eat it :) I know its the nice bit but seriously every minor change you make will help and its the minor changes that last

If you could forgo the bread at lunch time and stick a pile of salad and pickles on your plate to fill you instead you could then have your cereal as your HEB and thats the syns down to the 25 or going forward, split your HEB - half the cereal in the morning and fill with fruit and FF yoghurt and then use one slice of wholemeal for lunch - as the base of an open sandwich and pile it with all your free foods

But obviously they are just wee ideas for moving forward when you get a food shop done

Well done on the Gym. Exercise is so very very important , wont make us lose weight any quicker but helps with the aches and pains. I walk, I know a couple of the others here run and Ive made a promise to myself Im going to get a good cardio habit this year. Im doing a marathon in July - my 60th birthday pressie for me :)

Thanks Longwalker I do have 2023 books, unfortunatley I do not believe the cook meals are in it but I have not looked so I will check there, I could give a lo down on everything I have eaten at the end of the day to say whether or not I have stuck to plan, I quite like that idea and if the meals are not in there I will write what it is and if someone wants to check online I will be most thankful.

The skin is actually embedded in with the meat so I do not think I can get the skin off successfully I did try hard to get the skin off before it was cooked, they are not the most expensive of chicken drumsticks so they are probably not good quality ones. I will get the thighs next time and skin and bone them, I have done this before and know it works.

I feel too hungry to have half the bread and half the cereal, but instead cut down elsewhere, I will consider these points if I struggle to lose weight. I could have a jacket potato for lunch but I do get fed up with this. Or I could have pasta dish - what I could do is have one or two days as potato, one or two days as pasta and the rest bread.

However If I cut back where I have said I will it looks to be below 25:-

Breakfast:- Weetabix and milk (7 syns)

    Snack:- Chicken thighs free

Lunch:- Heb Bread eggs and smoked slamon Free

Snack:- 0.5 syn yoghurt and fruit

    Dinner:- 10 syns max

That would still keep me under 25 when I get my next shop (or maybe a bit before, if I go to the shops and top up a bit).

However I beleive I will lose weight on my 32 plan, although I will drop to this in the week or two after. Thanks again.

Welcome @HotDog2020.  I'm glad you've got the books so at least you can look up the syns of a lot of things.  With the Cook meals do they have a nutritional panel on them which shows the values per 100g?  If they do you could post those values and then we can use the Syns estimator for you to work out the syns.  Over time you could get all or most of them written down for when you next have them.

It would be a good idea to have jacket potatoes or a pasta dish at lunchtime instead of bread.  There are loads of toppings you can have on a jacket - baked beans, spaghetti hoops, tuna mayo (use Lighter than Light mayo as it's only 0.5 syns per Tbs rather than the 5 syns per Tbs for the full fat version), cottage cheese, LO curry or chilli etc.

Well done on using the gym, like @bubbs I'm much too lazy to use one - besides which I live nearly 10 miles away from the nearest one!

Good luck with losing the weight you want to.

Welcome to the group @HotDog2020 you’ll get great tips, advice and support here.

I’m now fully ensconced in the lurgy. Thankfully testing negative so hope it starts to clear soon.  Had toast with jam this morning that tasted a bit cardboardy and it’s topside for dinner with roasties, veg and gravy.

Hope you’re all having a lovely time.
