Gilly - if you are tired all the time have you had your thyroid checked as that and weight gain can be two of the signs of a underactive thyroid. Before i had mine diagnosed I was exhausted and would come home from work eat and go to bed. I very rarely drink fizzy drink but I know it's not considered healthy to drink too much so well done in trying to cut it back. Can you have healthy snacks to help with your afternoon droop maybe some pre boiled eggs or even cooked chicken or ham, i find bananas a more filling fruit to eat or some greek yoghurt and fruit the greek yoghurt is a good source of protein and keeping up your protein may help with feeling so tired.
Trouble I have is I don't drink coffee, tea, or alcohol so fizzy drinks are my only vice in that department - I just need to not drink so much!
I am going to do some research tonight on snacks I can make this weekend.Mortgage: £116,060 (Apr 2024)

Thank you for the welcome everyone. gillynomad I struggle with early mornings in the winter too, it gets better about mid February.
I have been tidying away Christmas goodies into cupboards today. I made of some tins of 'goodies' for OH who is super skinny. If I label them as 'his', even mentally, I am not tempted to take anything from them.
Eating has been okay, but I need to settle on what 'type' of eating I want to focus on. A few years ago I did six weeks of the Fast 800, lost a stone but felt terrible much of the time. I am going to use some of the recipes but tone it down a bit this time. Today I had:
B: Two poached eggs and a big grilled mushroom.
L: A small bowl of homemade lentil soup. An apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter.
D Three Pepper and bean chilli with some added Quorn mince with a large serving of red cabbage and broccoli. Two tangerines (as I have a few to eat up, as with the apples, and OH only eats bananas).4 -
Hi, my proper weigh in today and I am still the same as I was before Christmas so my new starting point is set.
Went to the gym last night but had a lazy day today and food not been great. I need to get a plan sorted for that. I did get chatting to people last night in the pool and one of them is the Pilates instructor so I am now booked in to try Pilates on Monday. I also got some nice ideas for breakfast recipes so was a great chat.
Plans for the weekend will be:
Food plan and shop
Gym/swim Saturday am
Walk Sunday3 -
@gillynomad and @prudent - I have hypothyroidism too.
WFH day so not do many steps (8037), but I'm proud of me because I did go to the gym!!!
Well deserved fakeaway tea. Slightly less deserved final mince pie, but I had the budget.
Breakfast: single Friday fried egg in a wholemeal bun, plus sauce. Normally I would have doubled everything.
Lunch/dinner: split a portion of smoky chickpea stew, and served with 50g rice per person, plus yellow peppers and spinach. Nice bowlful!
Snacks: apple, pre-gym banana.
Dinner/tea a treat! Yellow stickered Asda Extra Special sea salt and cider vinegar battered haddock (lush!!!!) With salt and pepper oven wedges, peas, gherkins and curry sauce.
Afters, mince pie.
So a slightly more calorific day today, but not bad really.Keep reading books!

Thanks Brambling, will look that up too. I follow a lovely lady on YouTube- Becky at One Acre Homestead, she regularly makes a baked oatmeal although never to a specific recipe. I know you can use courgettes in them, I had a ton of them from the garden last year but haven’t really don’t anything other than slice, dice, grate, courgetti them and freeze. I have used them all but would be nice to use in other ways.I also have a recipe for a fat less tea bread which I make often, freezes nicely and you can use as much or as little sugar as you like. I don’t like it too sweet so use very little and rely on the fruit for adding sweetness. Will post if anyone wants it.Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

@allie23 I would highly recommend Pilates. Due to a fluctuating health condition which means I cannot consistently attend classes I now do it using a YouTube channel called The Girl With The Pilates Mat which I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to try it at home.
I did my first weigh-in this morning. It wasn't a welcome number, but I did expect that. Onwards and downwards...
I am meeting a friend for brunch this morning. We do this once or twice a month. We are creatures of habit and usually have a hot filled roll, a latte and share a cake. Given the weigh- in I will need to investigate a healthier choice!2 -
First week in, down from 17st to 16st 9.
Not getting too carried away as my first week is always good, however it could have been more as I usually do a walk before weighing which knocks at least a pound off.
Done 33,000 steps Thu/Fri including a night walk so I'll ease off today, eating was awful until Tuesday when I knuckled down somewhat.
Still used the old scales this week.
Good luck everybody and thanks for doing this, hope we can all keep losing.6 -
Happy New Year everyone. First weigh in today delighted with a 2lb loss. Starting weight 11 st 9lbs today 11st 7lbs.6

Stress eating. And trying to clear out a fridge or two and various kitchen cupboards while tidying away excess Christmas treats. Net result I'm up 2 pounds.
Hoping that having no kitchen next week will help reverse this trend as we'll be eating out which makes portion control and more veg/salad much easier. And drinking out is massively expensive and I'm massively cheap so that will be a positive that will hopefully be a weight negative (IYKWIM)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
