Evening all ... well that's it for another year - phew! the dds and dgs were very late this morning so dinner was late too. dd18 and dd22 have had a rowette which has apparantly been brewing all this week but have both gone home now - drreading taking both of them on holiday in january - I will bloody slap them if they spoil my time with my family. dd18 and her friend spent pretty much the whole day playing with intendos and dd11 had a strop cos someone breathed a bit loudly in the middle of dr who - pretty average christmas then. exoh has volunteered to look after dgs3 tonight. dd18 tucked him up on the sofa at 9pm and left. He is now racing about the house like a mad thing having imbibed nothing but lollies and coke all day. I'd love to help but (a) i am hiding behind the washing up and tidying and (b) having him stay the night was not my idea and (c) neither were the lollies and coke. He did come through the door this morning at a rate of knots to tell me that he was a "berry lucky boy" - bless. Still limping on his sore foot but it's not spoiled his day.
I got loads of lovely candles, a steamer (yay) and a bubbly spa thing for the bath
Tomorrow I am heading into kingston to see if the lush sale has started yet - I am treating myself to a Lushfest for xmas
nearly forgot - happy birthday GB and hugs to the poorliesI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -

Evening, just got home from lunch at mums.
They only live around the corner, so a brisk walk has done me good.
We had a lovely time, 9 of us and there is still over half the turkey left.
Miss Twit has been fine today, after yesterday's mugging and thanks to all for your concern.
My mum had bought her a new ipod, so that helped.

Condolences for your family loss and many hugs for your little one! Here's hoping your new baby arrives soon to bring some good news for all.
MoamAlthough no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.
Snowball says too far away, working hard to bring it forward.0 -
My day went very smoothly compared with some of yours - I feel quite guilty
Mary93 - I have worked with older people for over 20 years and one thing I have learned about is their families. In my experience when one member of the family starts to 'have a go' at another - it is very often through their own feelings of guilt or inadequacy. You and your family sound as though you are doing everything you can to make your mother's final years as peaceful, comfortable and pleasant as possible. Your children/grandchildren have tried to think about the few things that give Nana pleasure or she is still able to do - and have geared their giving towards that end. You are quite correct that they do have updays and downdays - one day they don't know you and on another they surprise everybody by recounting details from years gone by. But just try asking them what they had for lunch.
Your brother has only just come into the situation and is probably quite shocked by the deterioration in her and will be thinking now about all the stuff that you have been thinking of for a long time. I'm sure that, given a little more time, he will come to realise that you and your family really are doing the 'right thing by' your mother.
Narabanekeater - impeccable timing on your daughter's part! Condolences on the loss of your uncle. What can you say about the loss of a pet as well as everything else that has happened to you all! They say things go in three's - so your problems should be over - at least for this year! And now you've got the birth of your baby to look forward to - (my sister-in-law delivered on Sat 22nd 12 days late (36 hours in labour and came home christmas eve at 6.30pm!)
Moanymoany - how awful for you! Please God that they are not too distraught - they must have known that Ada, as an elderly duck, couldn't have had much longer left - just a pity that she had to go while they were away!
Memorygirl - what an ungrateful bunch! Next year concentrate on yourself and your little family - maybe then they'll learn to appreciate what you have been doing for them all along.
Carol - What can I say dear, there's always next year - better luck next time!
Happy New Year for 2008 to all OS'ers!

Thanks Olliebeak. My brother hasn't just come into the equation though. He's been back and forth from Spain since Mum's stroke about three years ago.
He was very good at sorting out stuff originally as he stayed with his son close by to the hospital Mum was in.............I live miles away and as a foster carer I have a job to do. My brother is totally retired..........his time is very much his own and initialy he took over all the paperwork involved, power of attorney -the lot. I asked him many times to let me share the load after all she is my mother too and very reluctantly he added me to the power of attorney. When he went back to Spain when Mum eventually was placed in a really good care home he handed all the paperwork, lock stock and barrel to me ! I go and see Mum as often as I can but not being able to drive I am dependant on public transport or OH having time off work plus I have to pay for b & b while I'm there. I was talking to OH about it all last night and he said to ignore my brother and his 'inane comments' putting it down to jealousy in some form and he could be partially right. For years my side of the family seemed to have the bad luck with my eldest son and partner splitting up and him becoming a weekend dad. Now he's found someone new and they have a new baby, the twins are older and a credit to him. On brothers side, his son and wife have just split up. There's just the one child involved who is with his Dad. His other son would love children but is unable to so maybe OH is not too far off the mark.
Me and brother have never really got on...........two different lifestyles, Im the 'poor relation' it seems but what I lack in money I more than make up for with my loving family and friends so I don't feel I'm the 'poor' one.
Maybe its just his way of dealing with a difficult situation.........thanks for re-assuring me.............he always makes comments like this and they always hurt...............after all these years I should know better.
Sorry for droning on but its good to get it out of my system.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !
