1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks + a weekly Jettison Junk in January
2. Sort out sleep patterns - target bed by 2:00 a.m. & up by 9:00 a.m
3. Deal with mail & email on a daily basis
4. Don’t put it down, put it away + deal with mini tasks as soon as they are noticed e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
5. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ using the acronym - I.R.I.S. (Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off) - One per quarter
6. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
I have my coffee & have completed a wee task - wrote a mini shopping list & sent DH to the local sm 😉 He is not happy as he really, really dislikes shopping in Asda 😠 Shopping put away as soon as DH got back 😉
Siebrie, what a great & useful idea 😊
Excellent decluttering London_1 👏 you are definitely being brutal, strike that, you are being efficient in your decluttering 😊 Hope you managed a successful morning & got all your planned tasks completed 👍
Wednesday2000, loving that your flat pillows are getting a 2nd life as cat beds 😊 Well done on being so organised with the contents of your kitchen cupboards 👏
TheDoolallyDilly, pleased to hear that you were feeling a little better yesterday 😊 Apologies for not registering your decluttering total & that you are over halfway to your January target 😔 A medal 🏅 is on its way 🙂
London_1, more excellent decluttering of books 👏 I am surprised you are finding time to declutter as it is almost a full time job delivering books to the CS 😉 8 more bags 🤩
tibawo, thank you for sharing your experiences 👏 & good luck with your planned decluttering 🍀
Excellent decluttering foxandflowers 👏 You are definitely on a roll with a clear goal in sight 😊 The digital photo decluttering idea is a great one, so thanks for the reminder 👏 Unfortunately nearly all my photos are physical items & I have boxes & boxes of them 😔 Re the last part of your post - “I think my main aim is I would like to declutter the sense of dread my home gives me. If I was to have an accident and had to have ambulance crew into my house, I would be mortified by the piles of laundry, and rubbish stacked next to the bins, and the general state of things. I would like to be like @vulpix and be ready at a few minutes notice.” - Please remember that vulpix has taken a few years to get to the stage of Maintenance Decluttering so please don’t put too much pressure on yourself 🙏
Great decluttering oceanspirit 👏 & pleased to hear that OH is pitching in 😊
QueenJess, sorry to hear that DH is now ill & is definitely unable to help you in taking care of DS 😔 I am keeping everything crossed that your DH is not a ‘fussy or awkward patient’ 😫 & can fend for himself whilst you are busy with DS & of course DD 🤞
balabooberlies, thank you for sharing your personal experiences - such a thoughtful & considerate post 👏 Excellent decluttering - 4 bags & counting 👏
vulpix, thanks for you so much for sharing your decluttering journey 👏😊 Hopefully it will help us all realise that a) decluttering is a marathon & not a sprint and b) we will get to our individual happy/contented place - when we look around and think “I am Twinned with vulpix” 🥳
Wednesday2000 so funny 😹 Reminds me that when DH is riding the Harley Davidson he clocks up thousands of steps & hundreds of flights of stairs on his Fitbit 🤣
bit_by_bit, sorry to hear that you are still so under the weather 😔 Hopefully now that DD is back & DH is pitching in, you will be able to spend some time in the TLC Carriage recovering your strength 🤞I hope that your DD had an absolutely wonderful time in Canada & everything crossed that she was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights 🍀
Thank you so much for sharing your life flamingo747 👏 I am learning so much from not only you but so many others here on the Thread & now that I am beginning to understand a bit better I am starting to appreciate how difficult life can be 😔
Sounds like you are feeling a bit better nannywindow - judging by the amount of decluttering & tidying you are doing 😊 Excellent decluttering & well done on keeping DH on the straight & narrow 👏 There is definitely a distinct gap in emojis - the stamping foot can now be added to the wagging finger 😉
TheDoolallyDilly, good work on both the shredding & the deleting of old upsetting emails 👏 Re the emails, perhaps a maximum of 10 minutes per day & a celebration each day as they are deleted 🤔 Hope your handyman completed his tasks today 🤞
bit_by_bit, the EDT is moving so fast that I am surprised any of us are managing to reply to each other 😉 Excellent decluttering & very pleased that DH & DD are helping out 👏
Thanks Brie 👏
Excellent decluttering Liverpool_Anne 👏 Sounds like you had a lovely time with OH’ family yesterday 😊
Brambling, please remember that completing or making progress on WIPs is actually decluttering 👏😊
~FlowerPot~ sounds like you have your work cut out with DH & your intention to cull the 5 boxes of photos 😬😉 Good luck 🍀
Excellent decluttering ilovetea 👏 & I love that the newspapers have 3 lives 😊
EnergyShifter, that sounds like a lovely long birthday weekend 😊 & even more wonderful is that you received such thoughtful gifts 😊
Muddy_Walker, thanks for the homeopathic suggestions to help relieve a dry cough 👏
Lovely post TC77 😊 & some excellent decluttering 👏 You are really getting into the swing of decluttering & it is true what ‘they say’ (whoever ‘they’ are 😉) - success breeds success 😊 2024 is definitely Your Year 🥳
florianatwobob, I like it “benign neglect” 😅 Definitely my type of gardening 😉
Siebrie, what a marvellous word “flubby” - I had to look it up as it was the first time I had seen it 😊
What a great post daisy_1571 👏 I have taken a copy as a reminder that looking at things from a different perspective can really help 😊
Liverpool_Anne, snow - pretty 😍
~FlowerPot~, sowing the seed about decluttering to make your children’s lives easier in the future, has fallen on potentially fertile ground 🤞 Now some judicious & careful watering & who knows …….. 😉
Pitlanepiglet, thanks for sharing your response to daisy’s post 👏 The Declutterati Family might have to write a book the “The Practical Psychology of Decluttering” 😉
GrannyKate, thank you for sharing your method of tackling the decluttering of photos 👏 I have taken a copy of that part of your post to add to my growing To Do list as I think it might help to get me started 😊 This 2nd medal 🏅 is all yours for the photo sorting idea 😊 Excellent decluttering 👏 but such a shame that Monday’s mail couldn’t be decluttered so easily 😔 Good luck with the email decluttering 🍀
Siebrie, there is hope for your husband 🥳 It might have taken a good long while but hopefully 🤞 this is the start of you only having two children in the house rather than the current three 😂 I am keeping everything crossed that this is a true epiphany 🤞
TheDoolallyDilly, sorry to hear that your handyman had to cancel due to illness 😔 Fingers crossed that your car passes its MOT with NO advisories 🤞 Well done on the Filofax inserts decluttering 👏
QueenJess, pleased to hear that DS was well enough to go to school today 😊 even if it was under duress 😉 + well done on getting DH to help with a little decluttering 👏 Please, please try to get some rest for the rest of the week 🙏 The TLC Carriage is ready & we are waiting for your arrival 😊
Excellent decluttering short_bird 👏
Radish72, I hope working extra hours is through choice 🤞 Well done on managing to find time to declutter - every little helps 👏
Brie, there are in fact 2 spas 🥳 one of which is for the brave ones amongst us 😂
Very well done on decluttering your wardrobe shabbychic12 👏 That is an excellent amount of decluttering 🥳 Your last comment “I can now see what l have instead of living in the first 2 inches of my clothes 😂” had me in stitches 🤣
Great decluttering Pennypincin 👏 Hopefully that was just the boost you needed to declutter for a few minutes each day 🤞😊
Excellent work on the digital photo decluttering foxandflowers 👏 I would definitely keep the photos of previous ‘cluttered’ houses - a great reminder of just how far you have come 🥳
Florafauna, that is a lovely bit of decluttering 😊
Lovely post Moorviews 😊 & well done on recognising & acknowledging your successes in your decluttering 😊 Excellent work in the kitchen with the tidying, decluttering & writing inventories 👏 & lovely to hear about such a positive knock-on effect - less time shopping & less time spent putting things away 😊 That is several Wins 🥳
All caught up & now time to plan tonight & tomorrow nights dinners 😉

Another bag of books gone to the CS plus some cluttery small dust-catching objects and ornaments. My decorator came yesterday and I received the quote last night
.Nice chap and bless him, he said not to worry about removing one of the bookcases and the metal filing cabinet he said he would remove it and dispose of it for me, so two large heavy objects going when he starts the decorating next week. I told him I do make a mean bacon sandwich and cuppa so he is pretty happy to start next week for me
I also dropped a big bag of too large for me clothes off to the Sally Army as well today so its all going to plan so far. One the decorating is finished then fingers crossed my house will be ready to market.DD has some one coming this Saturday to view her house as well.
Tomorrow I will be sorting out the airing cupboard and discarding stuff I don't need or use anymore. I have two spare duvet to go to a pet rescue place and some elderly towels as well as the dogs will get the use of them especially in this wet weather.
Onwards and upwards

You are all doing great
No decluttering here just more family drama and I showered the dog cleaned the bathroom and did all the washing and grated some cheese 😂22 -
Hello all, ready to go on another week...
47 - Ink stamps
48 - Packaging for various things...
49 - And an unfortunate declutter - a mug I had't used in years I finally found a use for! It was perfect for mixing my morning matcha, only to get broken a week later so that went in the bin this morning
49/2024
I did buy a new Christmassy laundry storage bag, so my Christmas jumpers / outfits are off into the loft in that and the old bag will have summery clothes, so hopefully I'll have the breathing room to finally properly tackle my wardrobe! But that's a job for next week I need to get my studio presentable before my old desk is collected Thursday x
I hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.
even when it feels like your not....24 -
Thanks for your ongoing support @Mrs_Salad_Dodger. I have been still coughing but forcing myself to go out in the fresh air for short periods seems to lift me mentally and energy wise.
Went to the allotment today. DS2 came with me and helped. I laid thick cardboard and he moved mulch from a communal pile and tipped it onto the card. Its to keep the weeds down and very MSE as the cardboard was from emptied boxes and the mulch was free.
I am counting 1 big bag of carboard out today.
