I haven't finalised my resolutions but currently my ideas include:

DH & I making our Wills (I know!)

Grow more veg this year and take responsibility instead of DH doing all the watering, that way I am in charge of actually getting some tomatoes this year!

Make a cookbook/recipe folder and try out new recipes at least once every 2 weeks.

Use my bread maker more and freeze the bread in slices for DH (I don't eat much bread so tend to buy it instead)

Keep a savings record (thanks for the idea luxor4t) of how I came by each penny of savings.

Use up the food thats in my freezers and storecupboard as part of my de-cluttering. When I restock I will be more organised in what I am buying and why.

Think that'll do for starters, don't want to fail immediately cos the list is too off putting!

Thanks for making me make a start on this!

    Hi Everyone,
this is going to be a long list for me that i may keep adding too so here goes:o
    1. draw up a budget and stick to it.
    2. menu plan and stick to it
    3. eat more healthly and stick to it (can you see a theme developing here)
    4. sort a household management folder thing out too
    5. try and grow some veg
    6. dont wast time, energy or money on things that i can live without
    7. get back to work (been off with depression since july)
    8. be a little bit happier every day
    9. declutter house and life
    10. keep a savings record
    11. try and keep up to date with housework and paperwork
    12. not buy any more clothes or books etc
    13. do a little exercise everyday
    14. make bread more often
    15. do more baking
    16. hopefully move out of this horrible tiny house into something a little bigger
    17. try and get along with my family (mmmmm this could be the hardest one)
    18. try and pay off at least £10k of my debts
thats all i can think of just now be back later to add to it:confused:

does anyone else start with good intentions but have trouble sticking to things
    or is it just me

  • Yes! I am QUEEN of good intentions and rarely live up to them! But I think you have to just keep going if you fail, not give up. Any effort is better than none.

    My resolutions for 2008:

    1. Purchase-free 2008 (no unnecessary items)! Join me, anyone?
    2. Raw vegan diet, 100% apart from herbal teas and supplements
    3. Exercise daily
    4. Practice piano daily
    5. Hour of Bible reading and prayer daily
    6. Memorise a a Bible verse a day
    7. Start writing poetry again

    I think it's quite achievable . . . I remember one year I had about 7 pages of resolutions - lost cause!

I'm getting married- as cheaply as possible any ideas/money saving tips greatly appreciated]

Tattycath, We married in 2004. The total wedding cost £850.

My weddingdress was from Monsoon (lovely dress, which can also be worn as evening dress), photographer was a friend who wanted to turn professional - maybe you can find someone who is happy to do this too, in exchange he/she might be able to use some of your wedding pictures in the portfolio?
Ok, we had only a few guests, as my parents couldn't come, as mum was very ill at time with leukemia - no one was sure which way it was going to go, but all very well now!

Wedding cake was done buy MIL, she bought the cakes in M&S and bought extra deco etc - was very lovely cake!

Friend did the make up and hair - she use to own her own hairdressing salon.

Maybe you can ask people for favours?

If you want any pics, pm me )eg cake/ dress)

    Egon

  • Hi All! :D

This is a very inspiring thread. I think I've stolen all these ideas off someone else on here - thank you!:T

It looks a bit daunting, reading through my list. But if I keep logging on here and post to get some feedback/advice/OS word of wisdom, I should be ok!;)

My resolutions for 2008 (in no particular order):
    • menu plan and stick to it
    • declutter house
    • try and keep up to date with housework and paperwork
    • lose weight (1.5-2 stone)
    • Cook as much as possible from scratch
    • Use the food I already have in the freezer
    • Use up what I have before buying more food
    • To get some decorating done
    • Make a housework rota and stick to it
    • To use a sealed jar and save £1 a day
As I'm new, and there is so much info on here to read (I've already spent hours reading here:eek: ), I'll have to remember that just reading about OS moneysaving and agreeing wholeheartedly isn't the same as actually doing it!

Happy New Year to you all!!

Oooh I love this tradition.. I just think of it as bit of a hoot but do it nonetheless.
    1. grow veg in planters.. more as a learning experience for the children than sustainability.. I can kill plastic plants! But it sounds fun!
    2. Keep up with flyladying.. it has made a MASSIVE difference to my house!
    3. 'earn' £100+ a month selling stuff from the house.
    4. Make a start on the loft conversion
    5. Decorate the girls room
    6. Pay off all residual debt bar the huge loan.
I'd also like to learn to drive and maybe lose a bit of lard.. BUT only because it might stop my ancient legs hurting quite so much!! These are not resolutions these are 'would like to-do's'

    I've thoguht of something else!!

I'd like to learn to be more adventurous with my cooking.. I do bland traditionally english meals.. you know the 'meat and 2 veg' thing.. and though I won't go spicy I would like to venture into other variants.. the plain old sunday roast gets a bit boring after a while!
