They'll often (not always) fit isolation switches when they replace your meter.

So I guess you don’t have a timer anywhere to turn your heaters on
    and off.

The time switch is built into the meter.
It was a clever system for the 1980s, the smart(ish) meter of its time.

Anyone know how I got two cables going into one port ??

That’s concerning .. the smart meter replacement might not like that set up !

it's quite normal with those old meters. Don't worry, it'll look a lot tidier once the smart mter is in.

The installer will have fitted hundreds of meters before (s)he does your replacement. And if they think they don't have the right parts, they won't even start; they'll go on to their next job, make a record of what your system needs and you'll get another appointment in a few weeks.

@Rosie1001 Thanks for the pictures so far, but it would be nice to have one photo - a longer shot of the whole setup in one picture. It's a bit difficult to be sure of what's going on without that.
Also where does the slightly thinner of the two wires coming out of the one meter port (the one to the right) go?
(As an aside, not anything to panic about, but I think as you may know, that meter's certification has expired - just means there could be more "pressure to have it changed at some point", I'm guessing EDF haven't mentioned that - or have they?).

It seems to me that there's two issues here.
    1) You want an afternoon boost and not all suppliers have tariffs to do that, some that do have been suggested.
    2) You've mentioned that you have two MPANs and that is the likely over-riding factor as to why some suppliers won't consider you at the outset because they think you have "complex metering" which isn't strictly the case now, it may have been in the past. How many MPANs appear on your bill? (Don't post them here).

What tariff are you on with EDF, is it an E10 one?
Do you know why you have two MPANs? (I hope you aren't paying two standing charges?).
I'd guess that one of them is no longer "active" and you should be able to check that with your electricity DNO (Northernpowergrid?) and only the active one is on your bill? And of course that's the one you'd need to use for quotes.

    - Keep delaying EDF until your meter fails or they come around with a warrant (either of which could take years),
Oh blimey that sounds rather melodramatic, do you know any cases where they've obtained a warrant to change a working meter?
