I know it has to happen eventually, I just don’t want them to put the wrong meter in and have no heating
The supplier will replace the metering setup (integrated time switch or meter/meters and time switch) with one modern smart meter with in built timing and a featurd often referred to as auxiliary load control switch (ALCS) built in. Sometimes 1 meter which does the power switch itself - a 5 port model or one new meter that controls an external contactor (a small switch box controlled by the meter) to switch on off power for the heating circuits.
Competent meter fitters and companies will know exactly what is needed.
The risk is the loss of afternoon of peak slot - that several legacy tariffs offered - some even just in winter - which is annoying as can be programed even ovef tge air remotely - if there was a will to do so.
My e10 is on an old smart meter - but smets2 meters can afaik have the same multiple splits.
Over time lots of old tariffs have been removed from many suplliers new customer offerings - I lost rts many years ago - and moved to e10 - bug it was only open to legacy customers at EOn not eve EOn Next after split - back then according to my meter fitter.
Which seemed to only leave vanilla e7 at many. Sometimes 7 hrs solid, occassionaly in some regions with a small, gap overnight- e.g. 2230 0030 and 0230 0730.
But one firm , with a more innovative approach in general, has just woken up to legacy hesting - a market of 2m+ homes.
So have a look at Octopus's Snug Octopus, if your meter is upgraded. You can swap once smets2 to tHem getting a £50 referral code discount if can then jump from e7 onto if that appeals - at 9p overnight iirc - over 4p/kWh off peak in my region.

And Other companies at least used to offer split time tariffs like Ovo smart e9, EDF still publish e10 rates, the only company afaik who does, but not sure if take new customers on it and would configure e10 as split (in my region it's 5+3 aft + 2 even - but in others it might from memory of old econmy10.com postings - just by a solid 10 hr block - but it's more expensive than e7)]
I need a meter upgrade too - so cannot go onto Snug - but it's certainly one I'd look at once upgraded.

Here is some information that might be usefulIt's seven years old and not very helpful. The OP presumably has a Radio Teleswitch which is being withdrawn or a meter which is becoming life expired. The article does not say whether the E10 tariff will still be supported after the hardware change.0 -

Our prices | OVO Energy
The offpeak times vary, too. I've just shared OVO's timings (accurate to the best of my knowledge) here:

I’ve got older non lot 20 dimpled heaters
I am very worried I will lose my afternoon boost
I am booked in for a smart meter , but I’m not hopeful this will go straight forward and I’m reluctant to do it until the weather better anyway in case of any issues , don’t want to be left with no heating
I currently have 5 hours from around midnight , 2 hours in the afternoon around 1pm0 -

If you are still with EDF and have not changed supplier since last November and got no further information from them about your afternoon boost, then if the date for the smart meter is within the next say 4 weeks I'd cancel it if EDF can't provide further information immediately. I'd also then raise a FORMAL complaint with them about them failing to clarify what your tariff will be once a smart meter is fitted.3 -

@Rosie1001 There's a very high chance of losing your 2 hour afternoon boost if you just allow the meter to be changed. It is imperative that you get assurance in writing from EDF that they will honour the 2 hour boost tariff you are on with the smart meter so you have something to take to the energy ombudsman as evidence. Even then, I still wouldn't trust them. In your case, I'd put off getting a smart meter for as long as possible.3

The radio swtich signal is being switched off in the summer. June?
Do you have a black box marked Tele Swtich ? or RTS
I would try and stick with your existing setup during Jan and Feb. (to keep warm for cheapest £)
Then consider changing in March or April with the new setup to test out how it works in practice0 -
Radio Teleswitch (RTS) Switch-Off is on the way.
Cheap rates can either be provided by a timer nextto your meter or via the radio teleswitch
If you have a timer, you don't need to rush and do anything.
Sometimes the devices will automatically switch the heaters on. And if wire that way it will stop turning your heating on and you will need correct it
