As s to whether this sounds correct ?.
sorry it wasn’t clear …
I’ve read suppliers don’t always give correct information
I’ve never been told I have economy 10 meter from any supplier including EDF who I am with now0 -
Well Snug is definitely a current Octopus tariff - we have some folk here who have already gone across to it I think so hopefully someone can advise how they find it works for them.
what storage heaters do you have? That might help to work through whether that single hour in the afternoon would be suitable for you?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I’ve got the old style box of bricks type … not HHR ones
definitely need a boost mid afternoon in the winter
the new tariff is 7 hours overnight with EDF , if I stay with them with a smart meter , they not offered me anything else
…or change to octopus on same 7 hours , then change to the snug tariff but I’m presuming it will cost me to change to it
I get 5 now overnight and 2 hour boost
they are 3.4 kw heaters dimplex0 -
Rosie1001 said:Just spoken to octopus
they said I can go on their fix 14 tariff with 7 hours overnight and then get a smart meter installed and change to the SNUG tariff, would need to check cost of changing this
they were very helpful ,and the prices work out over £50 a month less than I’m paying now on EDF tariff ..but no afternoon boost to start with …
at least I know I have options , but definitely not doing anything until the warmer weather , maybe May time as I need the 2 hour boost I got now
That sounds promising! Hope everything works out with Octopus, and keep us updated

Yes, 5-port meter should make a good replacement for your RTS meter. It should make sure your storage heaters only charge on cheap rate, and if EDF put you on Economy 10 you'll typically get three separate heating periods - one overnight, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.I think this is what you're looking for?And with a smart meter you'll be able to switch suppliers easily if you choose to do so in the future.(You probably didn't need to start another thread for this!)N. I'd suggest looking at Economy 10. Depending on where you live, you might be able to get 4 or 5 hours during the night (it varies quite a bit which part of the night), then an early afternoon boost for a couple of hours. The last bits of offpeak are in some cases in the late evening, when you could use direct heating at the cheaper rate if the storage heaters have faded away by then. You can also use other power-hungry appliances - electric cooker, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, electric shower, hoover, iron - at cheaper rates during the daytime and evening offpeak hours. This could help offset the higher peak rate prices you'd be paying for the less greedy stuff. Have you told us where you live?
PS leaving it until May to exchange your RTS meter is cutting it very fine. There just aren't enough engineers around to cope, and the demand for them is bound to exceed supply by far as the 30 June deadline approaches.I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.1 -
I live in the north east of UK
im not bothered about late in the day cheap rate , but I do need afternoon boost as heater need a top up by then0 -
I’ll be more than happy if I get my charge over night , plus afternoon boost as heater.. the later on the day doesn’t matter , I’m a early to bed , early riser lassStarted new thread so those with these meters will hopefully comment and I can see how they are getting on with them0
